The Perfect Draft

I posted before we would make the playoffs with a great draft. I stand by that. I didn't give any recommendations, because honestly it is a mock draft, that would have been done too early to even have been accurate. I am assuming Revis will remain a Jet, and trades are not permitted. I am trying to be reasonable that players I want will be available for one reason or another.

Pick 1: 9th overall: Star Lotulelei, NT.

Ability to immediately start: B

Ability to make an impact: B

Potential: A

Success probability B+

Jets need: B-

Perhaps not the biggest needs, but perhaps one of the safer picks. Instantly upgrades our run D. Has the potential and quickness to develop in the pass rush.

Pick 2. 39 overall: Zach Ertz, TE

Ability to immediately start: B

Ability to make an impact: A

Potential: A

Success probability A

Jets need: B+

Yes, it is purely a coincidence that I agree with Walterfootball on the first two picks. I promise it ends here. SB Nation compared him to Dennis Pitta. Someone who is willing to block, catch, and instantly contribute.

Pick 3. 72 overall: Chase Thomas, OLB

Ability to immediately start: B

Ability to make an impact: C

Potential: B

Success probability C+

Jets need: A

It's hard to find a good scouting report on Chase Thomas. He is solid, but unspectacular. Can definitely start, but that has more to do with our lack of talent at the position. Played 3-4 in college. More was expected from him, but I think he has Connor Barwin potential.

Pick 4. 106 overall: Hugh Thornton, G

Ability to immediately start: C

Ability to make an impact: C

Potential: B

Success probability C

Jets need: A

A very physical, in your face guard is Hugh Thornton. Came from a wrestling background. Knows how to compete in the trenches and is probably just as ready to start as Vlad Ducasse. It's hard to find 4th round picks who can immediately contribute but Hugh Thornton may have the ability with a little work on his intangibles.

Pick 5. 141 overall: Zach Rogers, WR

Ability to immediately start: D

Ability to make an impact: C

Potential: B

Success probability C

Jets need: B

A high character individuals who like most short shifty caucasian WR's has been compared to Wes Welker. When I look at Rogers I see someone who is underrated and possesses a lot of intangibles you look for in the later rounds. He has consistent hands and a high football IQ. He may not have the upside of Patterson or Hunter, but he can play.

Pick 6. 178 overall: Ray Graham, RB

Ability to immediately start: D+

Ability to make an impact: C

Potential: B

Success probability D+

Jets need: B+

Pitt fans saw Ray Graham as a back comparable to LeSean McCoy. Then he injured his knee and has slowly regained his athletic ability. He ran poorly at the combine (4.7) Tough runner which some explosiveness. Solid vision.

Pick 7. 215 overall: Jordan Rodgers

Ability to immediately start: F

Ability to make an impact: D

Potential: C

Success probability D

Jets need: A

I understand that we would all like a QB sooner than this, but honestly, I feel that each of the six players above can contribute this year, even if it is just special teams. There are 0 QBs I think are worthwhile in the first 2 days of the draft. At least not when there are so many holes to fill. Just like Aaron, you would have thought that he'd have been taller. Completed 60%. Has battled injuries. Shows leadership abilities. Arm should be adequate. Has good bloodlines. With his work ethic, he may be a backup in the NFL.

So what do you think?
