Every day, it feels like the leverage in the Darrelle Revis trade talks between the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers feels like it's heading in the Jets' direction. First Tampa Bay isn't willing to trade their 2013 first round selection. Then they are. Then Tampa Bay indicates they're looking at Brent Grimes and aren't all that interested in Revis. Now, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times:
Doesn't look as though CB Brent Grimes is going to be a Buccaneer, according to someone with knowledge of the situation. Miami or Cleve? .— Rick Stroud (@NFLSTROUD) March 25, 2013
Again, leverage seems to be moving towards the Jets. Honestly, at this point, I'm half-expecting John Idzik to pull off a coup and score a 2013 first, second, and a 2014 conditional third that could become a second. My prediction right now is that a trade will be consummated in the days leading up to the draft. As Tampa Bay continues to run out of options, they'll get even more desperate and willing to throw everything on the table for Revis.
I really don't believe how dire their situation is can be overstated. You want to know what cornerbacks they currently have on their roster? Danny Gorrer, Leonard Johnson, James Rogers, Keith Tandy, and Eric Wright. Who? Yup. They need Revis in the worst way, and as more cornerbacks go off the market, they'll become more and more desperate.
