Reports have come out recently that the Broncos plan on deciding Elvis Dumervil's fate on Friday 3/15. Although he has recently relented and is willing to take the paycut, Denver might still want to negotiate his rights if the right deal presents himself.
With that said, should the Jets step in? His salary is $12.5 million, but he said he would take a paycut. If Denver puts him on the trade block today or tomorrow, the Jets would be wise to put an offer on the table. If they send a 4th or 5th round pick, Dumervil could be had.
Better yet, there is still a distinct possibility that Denver cuts ties with him altogether. If that is the case, the Jets should contemplate putting Dumervil on speed dial. He has been in the NFL for six seasons and averages 10.5 sacks in each one.
Gang Green could very easily sign Elvis Dumervil at a four year, $40 million deal with only a $5 million payout in the first season. Even if they lose a 4th round pick, there is nobody in the fourth round who will be better than Dumervil.
Imagine the Jets signing Victor Butler/Antwan Barnes with Elvis Dumervil. That would round out a very strong linebacking corps. In the draft, the Jets would be able to draft a star like Chance Warmack or Cordarrelle Patterson or maybe even trade down.
So with all of that said, what do you think?
