If you're a football junky like me, then you're watching the combine to see who really measures up to what you see on tape. Is so and so really that strong, or is he just feasting on bad competition? Is he really that fast? How does his out-route look next to that other guy's route? All that stuff. For me, the combine is more about verification than it is anything else. Sometimes though, you also find guys that put up some eye-popping measurements that make you run back to the tape to verify the work out. Who, from where, ran what? Let's go check this out.
So I'm watching this stuff all morning and I want to talk about it, but I don't want to hijack any threads. I know I can't be the only one, so I decided to put this up in case there's anybody else that is jonesing like me.
Couple guys that stood out to me so far, Cordarrelle Patterson and Geno Smith. Patterson ran an unofficial 4.37. He's a guy I'm really high on and someone I'm hoping we take at #9, so seeing him run that well gives me happy feelings. Smith also ran really well with an unofficial 4.55. I knew he was mobile but he's actually fast enough to hurt you.
I can't wait to see the RBs later on. I'm gonna be paying special attention to my boy Zac Stacy out of Vanderbilt. Dude looks the part at 5-8, 218. He put up a powerful 27 reps on the bench. I'm hoping he runs at least a 4.5. We'll see.
