New York Jets: Will Team Use the Franchise Tag?

Stay connected for news and updates

USA TODAY Sports

Teams can use the franchise tag on unrestricted free agents from today until March 4. By using the tag on a free agent, a team keeps said player under its control. The player who receives the tag gets a one year contract offer with a salary computed by a convoluted formula.

Below is a list of current Jets unrestricted free agents minus LaRon Landry. You might remember that the contract Landry signed a year ago prevents him from getting the tag.

Yeremiah Bell
Mike DeVito
Braylon Edwards
Nick Folk
Shonn Greene
Lex Hilliard
Dustin Keller
Brandon Moore
Chaz Schilens
Matt Slauson
Bryan Thomas

Here's a list of the tentative franchise tag numbers:

CB: Franchise: $10.668

DE: Franchise: $10.984

DT: Franchise: $8.306

K/P: Franchise: $2.926

LB: Franchise: $9.455

OL: Franchise: $9.660

QB: Franchise: $14.642

RB: Franchise: $8.079

S: Franchise: $6.798

TE: Franchise: $5.962

WR: Franchise: $10.357

We can get into complicated topics like exclusive vs. non-exclusive and transition tag, but these are the basics.

Would you use the tag on any of these players?
