Im going to start a little series of my own on for the draft called prospect watch I'll try and get some guys I really like and throw them out there with their pro's and cons and let you guys make your own decisions on them.
One thing I am going to say right now is no QB's will be in this series there are no real guys I like apart from Nassib and there are already hundreds of more qualified scouting reports that are easy to access out there.
I am going to try and do two guys today. One now and one later today.
So the first guy is Gavin Escobar TE, San diego state university.
2012 stats 40 receptions 543 yds.
2011 stats 51 receptions 780 yds.
2010 stats 29 receptions 323 yds.
Right so those stats dont jump out at you but seriously this guy is honestly a beast at the tight end position. He's 6'6 weighs 255 lbs and to put it simply is an athletic freak. You can see him out run most safeties and a number of cornerbacks, he jumps up and will catch everything... and i mean everything, the guy just doesnt seem to drop balls. My favourite game of his this year was against UNLV the guy puts up over 100 yds recieving with a nobody at QB and he does it in so many special ways which include a massive recieiving TD. Quite honestly this guy is a special recieivng TE, he has the size, he has the hands and he even has the speed. He is a match up nightmare.
However he does have a weakness in the blocking game, he is by no means weak but he does get beaten too easily sometimes. But when you put it in context with how Keller is in the blocking game then I believe he is a massive improvement.
Im not one of those people who believes we have to get rid of Keller because I really do still like the guy and want him to be a Jet, as long as the price is reasonable that is. But Escobar to me is a potential Elite TE. He's just got 'IT' you just look at him on the field and sometimes he seems like a man playing with boys he just jumps out at you. You cant explain what 'IT' is but when you see him play you know that Escobar has got 'IT'
