The Jets have put Konrad Reuland on injured reserve.
The Jets placed backup tight end Konrad Reuland on the injured reserve list with a knee injury
Reuland was not a major contributor and figured to be even less of one with tight ends Jeff Cumerland and Kellen Winslow II back.
To replace Reuland, they have signed former Patriot and 49ers outside linebacker Jermaine Cunningham.
The Jets today announced the signing of Jermaine Cunningham, a pass-rushing linebacker whom the New England Patriots drafted in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
It's tough to feel optimistic about this one. Two teams have given up on Cunningham since August. He struggled to even get active at points on a really bad defensive team in New England, and he has more games missed due to suspension in his career (4) than sacks (3.5).
However, in 2012, Cunningham made some strides. He saw success in sub-packages rushing from a 3-technique position and become a valued member of the defensive line rotation. Unfortunately, a 4-game suspension for violating the league's PED policy. The suspension stunted his momentum, and he never really regained it. A preseason injury prevented Cunningham from practicing or playing the last few weeks, and as a result, he was passed on the depth chart.
I suppose it's worth taking a shot on a still relatively young guy with a degree of physical ability. It isn't like there are any great options on the scrap heap. Maybe the Jets can get something out of him in the Ricky Sapp
