Hey all you Jets fans. Last night our Jets pulled out a win I didn't see coming. They are playing better than I had thought they would prior to the season start. Kudos to Rex and the team. With the exception of rookie growing pains at QB this team could be 5-0.
I have no doubt that Geno will be much better at the end of the season than he is right now. He has a lot to learn and is doing better each week. Sometimes its going to be one step forward and two steps back as in lasts weeks debacle against Ten Titans.
The line will gel as Winters gets more exp. The defense will get batter and better as they play together. A note from last night was that we have seven new players on the defense that weren't here last year. That will take time to come together, you see glimpses of it now. Hopefully Millner will grow as Geno is doing and be worth the pick we spent on him by the end of the year.
The downside of last nights game was the fourth quarter. The play calling with the exception of the last drive was terrible. We were crushing them all game with the run then we started throwing it more and took those 2 big sacks. One at the beginning of the third quarter and the one on the next to last drive. I'm not sure what was going thru Marty's mind. The first play from scrimage was a 6 yard run. You have a 6 point lead with 6 minutes on the clock. It's second and 4 why dont you throw in that full house backfield again? You run the ball or give a quick dump pass. The run gets you 2 or 3 yards and it third and 1 or 2. The run will surely get the first down.
The other part of the downside is the defense in the fourth quarter. We were in what appeared to be a prevent defense which everyone knows only prevents you from winning. This was ugly to watch as we were unable to stop anything Atl did. They passed and passed then slammed us with the run. This is exactly what NE will do to us in a couple of weeks when we get the second game. Gronk and Amendola will both be available by then. This team needs to be able to stop that since that is the way most teams are playing now.
In general this was a nice game but there were a couple of things that need to be addressed. If we can fix those things this will be the surprise team of this year. No one believed the Jets could play like this. There is potential for this team this year. The second half of this year is a lot easier than the first half. Lets hope we make some adjustments and continue this momentum over the next 3 weeks then we will be in great shape for the second half and a playoff run.
