A shockwave hit the NFL when Chip Kelly announced that he will return to coach Oregon. A caller on WFAN asked Mike Francesa about the situation. Francesa stated that inside sources of his told him that a "huge coaching change is happening in the NFL within the next 48 hours. A very shocking change." Francesa would not delve any further into the issue, but it left callers wondering what move this would be. As a Jets fan I started to make some analyzations and ponder possible scenarios.
The Jets continue their GM hunt after rumors that Tom Gamble was a favorite. News broke out that Gamble is headed to interview in San Diego Tuesday. The Jets have been avoiding the media (minus candid photos of Rex). It is said that high level personnel have been warning GM candidates that they cannot dispose of Ryan. Ryan will be entering his fifth with a career record of 34-30. He has been loud, brash, and outspoken turning the Jets into a comedy act at times. The GM job has become unappealing to many due to the fact that Ryan may be a mainstay.
With the National Champion tonight all eyes will be on Saban and Kelly. Both claim that they don't have the desire to jump to the NFL, but Saban was cryptic when he left to go to Alabama. The Jets are seeking "salary cap stability", trying to clear space up. Perhaps they are trying to make room to throw a package at a coach that can't be refused. It is a far stretch to assume that Saban would return to the NFL, but money talks.
Saban has reached his ceiling at Alabama. The Crimson Tide fan base expect nothing less than a title year in and year out. He has control over his players and immense influence, but the expectations are immensely high.
The Saban concept seems far fetched, but what other "shocking" moves can be made? I want to hear some outside opinions. Feel free to throw some ideas out of what moves can be made, what teams will be involved, and the impact.
