With The Jets probably signing Tom Gable as our new GM I think the entire culture of the Jets may change for the better. I originally wanted Marc Ross for the General Managers position, because I think he scouts and drafts players better than anyone in the NFL. However, with that being said Tom Gable is a great candidate with real potential to build a dynasty. Now I know it is way too premature to even speak of a dynasty. However, Woody Johnson is not afraid to spend money, and Tom Gable help build the 49ers from the ground up. With that being said I think this year we may be dumping a lot of our problem childs. We have a ton of holds and a lot of guys we could dump for draft picks.
Tim Tebow we all know will 99.9% not be in a Jets Uniform next year. That much is certain. There is a small chance that we find someone that could take Sanchez off our hands. A team with a shaky starter (KC, STL, Minn, AZ) or a team looking to solidify their back up position. A position I think Sanchez is really suited for. He could come off the bench and win a few games a year. However, we do have a lot invested in him, and by keeping him he would solidify our backup role.
Santonio Holmes is probably my least favorite player to ever wear the green and white. He has no team concept whatsoever. He truly believes he is a number 1 wr and should be targeted 15 times a game. Yes he has good hands and decent speed. But really what cornerback lines up across from him and is even somewhat intimidated? He is not physical , and I would not be one bit surprised if he is the locker room cancer that has been ripping this team apart for the past two years. The only down side is he would leave us even more depleted at the Wr position, and we would not get much for him in return. We would also likely have to pick up some of his contract.
Antonio Cromartie is a guy we take for granted. With Revis shutting down half the field Crom is expected to guard the number 2 wr and see a lot more targets than the top 10% of cornerbacks playing. For the most part he does hold his own. He does give up some big plays and make some bonehead moves. But he is also a main reason why we have a top ten defense with no pass rush. I think he is a true Jet. Just a guy for his attitude and effort that should remain a Jet until he retires. However, with as good as he has played this year he could probably warrant a 2nd round pick. This would allow Kyle Wilson to slide over and start at cornerback and give us a high value pick we desperately need.
Our 9th overall pick!!!! I never thought we would be picking this high and this is the year of the pass rusher. Almost perfect for us. There is one guy that if he is there we need to take, no matter what amount of pick are offered or who is on the board, and that is Jarvis Jones. I wouldn't even mind if we made a trade, within reason, to move up and take this guy. He has New York Jets written all over him. I have a feeling in the Rex Ryan system he is another Von Miller, T- Suggs, Lawrence Talyor or whoever else you want to refer him to. He covers, rushes and stops the run. The sad news is I doubt he will be there at 9. So we could always trade down. Maybe acquire a 1, 2 and 5th round or maybe a 1, 2 and 4th if we are lucky. The problem is there are no good QB's in this draft and the only teams needing one after we draft are the Cowboys and the Rams and that is only if, big if, they want to move on from their QB's.
One of the Benefits of growing up in the Midwest is watching teams like the Packers and Vikings operate. Vikings have not won championships, but they do a great job of rebuilding. The Packers resume speaks for themselves. However, they both build through the draft and have solid football teams. I think we finally will have a guy in Tom Gamble, that will care more about putting together a good football team, and less about making the front pages. I realize this is kind of a short post with not a lot of meaning behind it. These are just potential guys that could be dealt. Let me know if you think any of these guys will be dealt, or maybe other players I forgot about.
