Darrelle Revis Trade Rumors: Revis Wants $100 Million

Robert Laberge

Mark Cannizzaro says Darrelle Revis wants a contract around nine figures.

According to someone familiar with his thinking, Revis is seeking a contract similar to or “just north of’’ the deal the Bills gave defensive end Mario Williams — six years, $96 million with $50 million guaranteed. That is the largest contract for a defensive player in NFL history.

This was to be expected. Revis has been the kind of guy who has chased every last dollar in his career. It is time for the Jets to step up and make a deal work that makes sense for both sides. Revis is not too expensive. Despite his big salary, in the years he has been healthy, he has given the Jets some of the best bank for their buck. One player cannot sink your salary cap situation, especially when that is an elite player. The Jets should not lose a once in a generation talent over a few million per year with which they would be hard-pressed to produce something of greater value.

Of course, that does not seem to be what is happening here. I am fully bracing myself for the Jets to deal Revis for 30 cents on the dollar.
