Question regarding NFL rules on players contracts

Stay connected for news and updates

I hava a genuine question regarding league rules on what consititutes actual player salary that count against the cap .

i have come up with a scenario that we could sign revis for life but i'm not sure weather its legal or not ( i presume it is illegal ) . So could i ask for you knowledgeable guys to give an explanation as to weather this is allowed or not .

My idea for signing up Revis is that we give him a playing contract for EG $5m a year for 6 years . We then give him a $10m a year endorsment deal to be the " face of the franchise " for 6 years also . He only gets his 10m if he is still a part of the team . So the jets would be paying him $15m for every year he is a member of the team but only costing 5m in cap .

can this be done ?

also same idea but replace jets $10m endorsment with a company , say J&J or another company linked to woody or the jets but still have it stipulated that Revis must be on the jets roster to earn his endorsment .

can this be done either ?

I'm sure things like this must be illegal but a can't find actual rules to confirm it . Please help
