A short rebuttle to an Anti-Marty article

While I am in no way an expert in our new OC Marty Mornhinweg, or the west coast style offense he calls, I do wish to rebute an article written against him. You may read the article here: http://www.footballperspective.com/marty-mornhinweg-and-why-ranking-teams-by-yards-is-silly/ The gist of the article is that yards are meaningless when ranking offenses. See my rebuttle below

While I agree that the superior offense is always the one who scores more, that doesn't mean Marty's system can't work for us. One problem which seems to have plagued the Jets as of late is our woeful lack of yards. For the past 2 seasons we have virtually been a 3 and out machine. This gives our defense a short field to work with, and a reletively short time to rest. It is often said, and often true, that football is a game of field position. Our inability to move the ball on offense is killing our field position. Our team is built for the next few years to have a stout defense. With cornerstone players like Wilkerson, Coples, Revis, Harris, and Cromartie, our defense should be in the upper half of the league for years to come. It's naive to think we will be able to compete with the top wide open offenses around the leage in the next 3 years. It isn't naive to think that with a servicable offense, we could control those teams with our defense, and remain in, and win some of those games. I am not saying Marty will be our savior, but I am saying there is a very logical way to see his scheme working, with the correct personnel moves, to make us a winning team again.
