Look, I'm glad we got a GM in J. Idzik who's been an integral part of very successful organizations and seems to have a very bright future ahead of him, but I don't want to hear all of the talk that he's going to save this franchise, blah blah blah. We haven't seen the extent of his powers, the people on his staff, the people on the coaching staff, any player additions, any cuts, or even the slightest exchange of money.
The guy has been GM on paper for upwards of several hours and suddenly we're saved? No no no no no. That's not how things work, especially with franchises like this (no offense).
The holes on this roster are going to be hard to fill in one to two years: QB, RB, OL, probably WR, probably TE, LB and probably S - so basically every position except DL, CB and Special Teams.
Also, assuming Rex Ryan is fired by the end of the 2013 season (a very likely case if the holes are not filled considering the strength of schedule and the Superbowl Host Curse), Idzik will have the new task of choosing a new head coach from what may be a weaker selection of candidates than there was these past few weeks.
So until I see some tangible progress that makes this team look more like Pittsburgh or the Giants as opposed to Cleveland or Buffalo, I'm going to hold off on my praise for a person that has only been a Jet on paper for the last few hours.
