Let me start of by saying that not a lot of people knows this about me but, running back is one of my more favorable positions on the football field. I was a HUGE Curtis Martin fan growing up.
Anywho while it really hasn't been that long since the Jets had an every down Legit RB (Thomas Jones 2007-2009) it feels like its been forever. The Jets need a threat at the RB spot to pair up with Shonn Greene if they decide to retain him., the "starting" running back role is one of the needs on the current 2013 New York Jets. while I think we should go to Free Agency for a running back some one like a Danny Woodhead or a Reshard Mendenhall, I think their is some talent in the middle rounds of the 2013 draft. While I believe the Jets should Go For OT Lane Johnson in the 2nd round or so, there is a talented RB out of Rutgers named Jawan Jamison.
As a freshman in 2011, Jamison rushed for 897 yards with nine touchdowns. He was the MVP of the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl after rushing for 131 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2012, the young Scarlet Knight stepped up his game as he rushed for 1,054 yards though the touchdowns total were down with 4.
Jamison decided to not finish his final two years at Rutgers and said that he would enter the 2013 NFL draft. Most draft boards have Jamison projected as a third round pick. I believe that to be because of how young and how raw he possibly is, and also the fact the he is undersized at 5-8, 200 pounds, but if he decided to stay the final 2 years he could have possibly turned in to a top 5-10 pick because I believe him to be that good.
and what better fit than nabbing a kid in your own backyard.
In my opinion (though a few scouts would disagree) which is all it is, I believe he has a chance to turn into an every down back in the NFL with the right coaching and a decent offensive line. Jamison can do it all he can catch out of the backfield, he can run between the tackles, he can run outside and he can pass block, "That boy can play some football. Hell, the boy will fill up the Gatorade cooler, walk the dog, and paint your back porch. I'm telling ya, the boy can plain out play football". to quote the late L.V Miles from Friday Night Lights. oh and the boy isn't afraid of contact either...
I've hear a couple of people refer to him as a Ray Rice like back, tell me you wouldn't sign up for that? My next installment will be my thoughts on free agency. So, until next time, talk to ya soon.
