Marty Mornhinweg to Interview With Jets for Offensive Coordinator Job

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Manish Mehta reports the offensive coordinator search has begun. The Jets are interviewing Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

I'm told former Eagles OC Marty Mornhinwig is on Jets' OC list. I believe he's interviewing as early as today.

Mornhinweg is from the Mike Holmgren/Andy Reid coaching tree. He is a West Coast offense type. He is probably best known for a disastrous 5-27 stint as Matt Millen's first head coach with the Lions where he once deferred after winning the coin toss in overtime to take the wind.

As a coordinator, though, Mornhinweg has been quite successful. He has worked under offensive oriented head coaches Steve Mariucci and Reid so this would be a chance for him to show what he can do on his own. In his career as a coordinator and head coach, offenses coached by Marty have been better than around three quarters of the league on average. At first blush, this seems like a good guy to look at.
