Jay Glazer reported last night the Jets have sought permission to speak with Falcons Director of Player Personnel Dave Caldwell.
Correction on Caldwell, Chargers and Jets, not Cardinals, have asked permission to interview him
This was Caldwell's first year as Atlanta's Director of Player Personnel. Prior to that he spent four years as Atlanta's Director of College Scouting. So there you have it. Caldwell helped run an offseason that saw the Falcons move from good team to elite team with acquisitions like Asante Samuel. Before that, he oversaw a scouting department that saw picks like Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Sam Baker, and Kroy Biermann. The Falcons looked hopeless when the regime Caldwell is part of came to town. Now they have five straight winning seasons.
Caldwell joins Tom Gamble and Marc Ross as official candidates for the job. There is no slam dunk hire who is guaranteed to be great. The good news is the Jets are looking at people who are good on paper. There hasn't been an unqualified name to emerge yet.
