Well apart from some shoddy tackling which led to a couple of Bills scores, I don't think we really have anything to complain about there. It's always good to start the season with a victory and we dominated for large portions of that game. We worried about scoring, well 48 points later a lot of doubters will be keeping relatively quiet this evening.
The first thing that I'm going to mention is Mark Sanchez.. Lets get this out the way first, the interception was a poor choice to try and shovel that football, but it was also unlucky that it bounced off Cumberland. However he was 19/27 for 266 yards and three touchdowns. He looked composed under pressure (Consider that he was statistically the worst QB in the league last year under duress) he set his feet, he made his reads....this is the Mark Sanchez we need to see each week!
Stephen Hill had a great performance, a rookie starting his first NFL game on opening day at home in front of a packed crowd and he comes down with 5 receptions for 89 yards and 2 scores. Well that's pretty impressive, then you have Kerley who brought in the opening score and returned a punt for a touchdown, and Holmes who converted some important passes and our receiving core showed up today. Cumberland had a nice game as well.
Remember that fearsome foursome on the Buffalo defensive line? well they finished the game with 0 sacks and very little pressure. Austin Howard kept Mario Williams as quiet as a mouse, he had just one tackle on the day and I can't even remember that tackle. Keeping Sanchez clean means he has time to throw, when he has time....well he finishes with a stat line like he had.
I thought that Revis had a very good game and his anticipation on the interception was excellent, he stuck to his man well, tackled well. Greene had 94 yards on the ground and really battled for some tough yards, I was happy to see him get the score at the end as he really deserved it. Tebow was limited and didn't really make much of a difference to the game.
I did mention that I was concerned about CJ Spiller and for good reason., 14 carries for 169 yards and a couple of receptions for 25 yards. It is a little concerning but there were some missed tackles that allowed Spiller to gain some extra yards, those kinds of tackles are usually made by players like Scott and Landry.
Malone and Folk did their respective jobs in the kicking game and the coaching and play calling by the Jets staff was on point. I could nitpick a little more and pull up some more negatives, I could if I wanted.....but I don't want to and we can go through the specifics in the next 48 hours.
Enjoy the evening Jets fans, we are 1-0 and we have a win against a division opponent!
