Sorry this is a little bit late, I've been/am very ill at the moment. I know we have started to move on to the game against the Miami Dolphins, however we just need to take a couple of steps back to look at the performance of one player against Pittsburgh, one shining light in the dark tunnel that was Heinz field for the Jets.
There are no two ways to look at it, that game was bad, it was very bad. There were a lot of flaws from offense to deffense to special teams, tackling, fundamentals and coaching. It wasn't pretty, however one player had a very good game and it was as unexpected as you could expect, that player was Garrett McIntyre.
Now Garrett has floated around after being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Seattle Seahawks back in 06. He has made stops in Arizona, Tennessee, San Jose, Hamilton and eventually the Jets back in January 2011. He has quietly been one of the better special teams performers on the team, however he has never really done much on the defensive side of the football.
Rewind to Sunday and he walked off the field with 5 tackles, one assisted tackle and 2 sacks. It wasn't a Lawrence Taylor performance and I don't want to get too excited about it, however he really made a statement for more playing time on Sunday and he deserves to get it. With Bryan Thomas being out he stepped up to the mark and offered a little pass rush. We will see if it was a flash in the pan, one game wonder.....however for now at least, he gets my vote for the NY Jets week two reason to celebrate player.
