Been reading posts the past few days on what happened sunday. Yes, there were a lot of mistakes and there is a lot of work to be done but in Pitt we played good most of the time. The turning point was 3rd and 16 on the jets 37 and Ben threw a TD pass that if Cro just gave a small nudge the WR would have been out of bounds. That was a bonehead play, OK you got burned but see the WR go up and get the ball and a small nudge would have done it, that hurt big time. Winning in Pitt would have been awesome and to do that we have had to play almost our best and until that bonehead play by Cro it was 13-10 and Pitt would have punted it back to us. The other momentum breaker when we still had a fighting chance was the fumble off of kerley's face mask.
Our defense played good if not for the miss tackles on Ben that kept drives alive and the misses on the RB's. Imagine we had some miss tackles on the RB's and they only had 66yds on 23 rushes. We also had 3 sacks but should have been at least 6. Game ball goes the Mac the only LB who came to play, he had 2 sacks, 6 tackles and Pohua had the other sack. We had pressure on Ben but as he seems to do got out of it many times.
Again we couldn't run the ball and Pitts defense once they realized that played the WR's close and we couldn't get separation. Then they started putting on the rush and our QB had less time, less time and no separation spells a long day for the offense. Not counting the wildcat Green and Powell rush 19 times for 62 yds., a 3.26 avg. I read on a post that green is a big part of the wildcat and we can't run it without him, what green is a north south runner and they try to run him east west and looked what happened. He has no cutting skills so why is he even in the wildcat.
Have concerns but my big one is still the Oline, because if we can't run and have to pass we need more separation or time, they have to step up and where is the screens to help offset the rush, screens to Powell and JMac. As some already know I'm not a fan of Green and because he can't cut or create that puts more pressure on the Oline to open decent holes him. Maybe its me but it seems every game at one time or another he seems hurt in some way.
Biggest disappointment is the coaches lack of balls or balls the size of BB's. They had time to go down the field and try to tie the score or get lucky with a TD but they run out the clock with about a minute left and this is not the first time. Seems after that Pitt was more inspired in the 2nd half after they felt we we afraid of them. Don't know if that's true but.
Now its seems the Phins are be respected as any NFL team and not a for sure like many have thought. I hope we do a Bills on them but we have to tackle and play offense. Bush went crazy on the Raiders and I thought the Raiders have a decent D.
