Jets pass defense vs. Buffalo

I went through every pass play to record notes about what I saw. I have the NFL game rewind, so I used the All-22 view the best I could. Now, coverage schemes are somewhat subjective, even with the All-22 view, so don't take these as gospel, but it should at least paint a clearer idea of how our pass defenders did. Fitzpatrick attempted a total of 32 passes, 18 completions. Come with me for the breakdown after the jump.

For each person who was targeted with a pass, I will put the amount of targets, completions, yards, 1st downs allowed, TDs allowed, interceptions, and passes defensed.

Passes defensed: Obviously a hole cannot defend a pass

*Chandler beat Harris on a medium range route and grabbed the ball but Bell hit Chandler and separated him from the ball. I counted it as a PD.

**There was a screen pass to the man Cromartie lined up against, so I counted it to Cro, but Cro was in off coverage, Wilson was lined up on the up receiver, and it looked like they were running a matchup man where Cro takes the outside WR and Wilson takes the inside. Wilson was closest defender to screen.

***Harris deflected one pass intended for Chandler that went to Nelson for a gain of 10, who was uncovered.

****Holes in the zone plays:

1. 21 yard pass to Nelson, caught between Landry and Bell. Looked like Bell’s fault to me, as he ran to cover a receiver that was already covered, leaving Nelson alone in the middle. Could also be Landry who did not rotate to the spot quickly enough, but I think it was on Bell.

2. 11 yard pass to Jones, the Jets blitzed and had all DBs in deep off zone coverage, Jones was essentially left alone underneath.

3. 29 yard pass to Johnson, between Mauga and Bell on a post, Mauga left the middle open to quickly run outside the hashes and Bell was in deep half coverage.

I have more data that I will add when I finish compiling, but I figured I would throw this up there for now. Once again, we see why you don't tug on Revis's cape.
