Jets fans can remember the Green and White practicing for years in Hempstead. The highlight of my older kids' summer was going to a Jets practice and Jets Fest at Hempstead. However my younger kids know nothing from this because the Jets abandoned Long Island when they got their practice facility in NJ.
Last year the Jets announced a token practice night in Hofstra which they advertised as:
It's a night for the Jets and Long Island to reunite again. Don't miss it.
Then the Jets cancelled the pratice because of unfounded concerns about the weather and gave the following press release on their website.
Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the New York Jets have cancelled today’s practice at Hofstra University. The team will return in 2012 for its annual training camp practice in Long Island.
This year they announced in July that they could not work something out with Hofstra so they switched family night to Met Life.
Simply, the Jets have abandoned their LI fans. They could have tried to schedule a practice somewhere on Long Island or even have a player meet and greet. But now that they got the NJ practice facility they wanted, the Jets just don't care about their LI fan base.
