I'm sure you guys remember that a couple of days ago we posted the video and an article where Cornerback Antonio Cromartie went on national television and admitted that he was the 2nd best receiver on the team, despite only getting one practise rep this off-season. Well unsurprisingly, our actual receivers did not like the comment too much, and nobody took it harder than new boy Chaz Schilens:
''I think it's a slight,'' Schilens said after practice at training camp Wednesday. ''I'm not going to lie. I just wouldn't say it. It's not something I would say. I'm not him, I guess.''
''I heard that,'' Schilens said. ''I'll let him think whatever he wants. I think he thinks that (playing) receiver is a little different than what it actually is. He's unbelievably talented - and he plays cornerback. So, I don't know.''
''We'll address it on the football field,'' he said. ''I kind of thought it was a joke, but I guess he said it and that's how he feels, so it's my job to I guess fix that situation, so we'll see what goes on in practice. He's entitled to think whatever he wants.''
Not to make a mountain out of a mole hill, I think Chaz has every right to be a little annoyed at the comment, however showing how wrong Cromartie was to say this on the football field, well that's the best answer of all. It looked to me as though Cromartie was deadly serious about being the 2nd best receiver but it seems to have lit a fire under Chaz going forward.
The problem is, we have a locker room under the microscope. It doesn't matter that the players have come out united and confirmed that the issues last year were blown our of proportion, any sign of tension will be reported on and to be completely honest I don't blame anyone who does report it.
So it rocked Chaz a little, but did it rock rookie Stephen Hill.......I don't think so:
''Oh, no. I mean, I wouldn't be upset,'' Hill said. ''I'm just trying to be Stephen Hill and trying to stay in my place.''
''Right now, I always feel like I'm the best receiver on the team,'' Hill said. ''Of course, Santonio is the veteran, but as a wide receiver, you always want to be the best, and that's how I feel.''
