We have the best center in the world. Its time to accentuate that asset. Lets surround Mangold with road graters, and pound the rock right up the gut. Mangold is clearly the best lineman on the team (maybe even the league), and he dominates nearly every snap. It only makes sense to take take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.
Slauson is a solid left guard. He is. But Vlad moves mountains. Its time to stick Vlad between Mangold and Brick, and rev him up and let him fly. Let the guy do what he does best, which is come off the ball and knock the snot out of people. Vlad struggles in space and with reading defensive complexities. So lets eliminate that nonsense and tighten the splits, and run the ball right up his backside. Stunt this.
Lets stop screwing around and tell all the world, "here it comes... right here, right now." Lets go on a quick count and slam it right up the gut behind Vlad, Mangold and Moore. Come get some. Our tackles are weak in the run game, so lets just not run behond them. Simple, yes. But the obvious strength is obvious. Might as well utilize it.
We can go single back with 2 TEs. Which would keep the defensive front somewhat spread out, while allowing us to tighten the splits inside and get some wedge-type action going. Or we can go with Ganaway at FB and run some dive action with him.
His blocking skills are moot because he can take away one or two tacklers with a good ball fake. He's a big back with true running skills. You can't just half-ass it to meet him in the hole. You have to honor his run action. He warrants at least one good step towards him. A couple of hand-offs to him will all but ensure that step. Which should help open things up for Greene. You can line up in an I-formation and run dive action to Ganaway to one side and dive Greene to the other. Add Tebow to that mix as a QB, and defenses are definitely migrained. King Ugly in a phone booth on his terms is not a cool place to be. Being forced to deal Mangold in tight spaces on his terms is probably the worst place to be. Being a middle backer and looking at King Ugly, Mangold and Moore and wondering which one is trying to pancake you while also trying to read whether Ganaway, Greene or Tebow has the ball and is coming downhill like rolling thunder can't be too fun either.
Featuring Mangold in the run game CAN'T be a bad thing.
