With all the excitement with the start of training camp today, there is a bit of a downer for the Long Islanders. Rich Cimini mentioned today that due to the presidential debate being scheduled in Hofstra, the annual Jets practice there had to be cancelled. Instead the session has been moved to MetLife Stadium. The specific time is not yet set at this time.
Hofstra, of course, is where the Jets practice facility had been located from the 1960s until 2008, when the team moved to Florham Park.
Here is the team's statement, from Cimini's article:
"We have had a great relationship with Hofstra University for many years and we understand the circumstances," the team said in a statement. "Based on the timing, the team has decided to move the August 21 practice to MetLife Stadium. Although we’re sorry that the location of this year’s practice needed to be change, we are committed to remaining connected to our Long Island fans."
Of course, this is good news for some of you Gang Green Gangsters out there, especially the New Jersey residents. In addition to being at the stadium - hopefully for free - you won't have to go through rush hour traffic across the river and the LIE. It's obviously disappointing for the Long Islanders, especially the longtime fans, but I think JetLife Stadium is a good alternative. What do you think? Should they have moved it somewhere else in Long Island instead?
