Holmes did an interview yesterday, on NFL Network, about the Jets and his QBs? At least that is what I thought until I really thought about what Holmes said. Santonio was asked if he thinks a 2 QB system could work. He said "no" with great conviction. This made me pause for a second and think, "Doesn't this completely conflict with what we are doing this year?" Why wouldn't I think this? The media has been feeding us this 2 QB system garbage since he has arrived. I didn't see the light just yet though.

This led me to think that Holmes was in denial of the whole situation. It seemed that Santonio refused to believe that Tebow would be the 2nd QB taking plays away from Mark. Holmes then reiterates what many other Jets have said this off season. He gives his unequivocal suport to his leader, and QB, Mark Sanchez. It doesn't matter if you view Tebow as a QB or a football player, this is Mark's team. Tebow, no matter how big he is, is only a weapon on Mark's Jets. When Brad Smith was on the team, did we think we were running a 2 QB system? I didn't consider it one. Now Tebow is on the team with a utility role similar to what Brad's was. I don't mean they are the exact same role. Tebow probably won't be doing much kick returning or receiving. The similarity comes with variety of positions, and responsibilities each can handle. Other than the few positional differences, what has changed?

Why would we change our entire thinking of our system when the differences are few? The answer is who has changed, not what? Tebow is more than just a passionate football player. He is a highly influential, public figure. The whole football world puts Tim on a pedestal because of his bigger than life aura. It's very hard to look through the hype and fanatical love for Tebow, and see exactly what he is on this team. Furthermore, it's equally hard to see what this team is with him on it.

The answer is obvious, but no one wants to believe it. All the media sees is a QB competition and potential locker room unrest. They fail to see the whole team falling in line behind Mark, even Tim. I am now on the same page as Holmes in that this year's system won't be much different from the one in 2010 and 2009. Tebow will probably see a few more snaps, and make a few more passes. It won't be a whole lot different in the end. The media needs to stop rolling their eyes when a Jet says Tebow is a great football player. When it comes down to it, that is exactly what he will be for Mark.
