I have a couple of random thoughts, concerns that I wanted to talk about. Let me know your thoughts here.
Joe McNight was a leader on special teams last year. He had a break out year, He averaged 31.6 yds per return and had two over 40 yd returns. I think this year he has the potential to be even better after he was able to add some weight/muscle. However, now that LT is gone he is expected to see much more RB time. He's probably our #2 behind Greene. So how much punt returning do you think he'll do, with an increase RB role?
Mangold's back up? When Mangold went down last year it caused major headaches for the Offense. I would go so far as to say it actually cost us a game or two. We had Baxter, who prior to starting last year in place of Mangold had a total of 9 practices and 42 plays with the team. He ended up not being....horrible (I'm being nice), but he was definitely not ready for primetime. As far as I can tell we don't have another center on the roster. Why hasn't there been more outrage over this?
I recently saw a post about who is the most the most indispensible Jet. I said Mangold was due to the fact that he is a pro bowler and an intergal part of our OL, coupled with the fact there is no depth behind him. Most users agreed. Needing a SERVICEABLE backup to Nick is right up there with the need for a serviceable RT, IMO.
What do you think?
