Jets Sign Bush

There was some speculation yesterday that the Jets and first round pick Quinton Coples might be close to a deal. However, with no other first rounders signed around the league, it doesn’t surprise me that this was apparently a false alarm. Instead, it’s reportedly sixth round defensive back Josh Bush who is the next to sign his rookie deal. It probably makes sense for the Jets to lock up all of their later round picks before they deal with Coples’ contract, because then they can maximize what they give him while knowing exactly what they have left under the rookie allocation.

We were projecting Bush to get a deal in the region of $2.2m with a signing bonus of around $100K, but will update this post when the actual figures are leaked. That deal will automatically include a fourth year escalator (based on 35% playing time overall or in two of the first three years) that could boost the contract value to about $3m.

Like the early sign now teach him how to cover Gronk and Hernandez.
