Quinton Coples said yesterday he has most of the playbook down.
"The defensive scheme, the majority of it is based off of what we got today," Coples said, "so I grasped the majority of the defensive playbook today."
Rex Ryan disagrees:
"We love the fact that he thinks he has it down," Ryan said. "This is one practice. He’s got like four defenses in and our library’s a little more extensive than that. ... I like his confidence. The great thing is we will hold him to it now."
The Jets run a very complicated defense so it is unlikely Coples has it all down. These rookie camps are about teams throwing as much at these young players as possible and seeing how much they grasp. If Coples is doing well picking things up, it bodes well.
Part of me feels like the criticism Coples is getting might be the best thing that could happen to him. The questions about him seem to deal with his motivation. All of the doubt from pundits will give him plenty of motivation.
