Let me start by saying that I definitely don't know as much about football as most of the people that post on this page. I've been a fan of the sport (and the Jets) for about 6 years. Every year I get a little more into it and this is the first year I've been reading the Gang Green posts. So, I'm open to criticism as long as it's supported with some fact.
As a FB, I know John Conner's first job is as a run blocker. And in that capacity he's ok (pretty good at best). But from what I saw last season, he can run the ball pretty well too, and not just on the goal line or 3rd and 1. At first it was just a feeling I had, having seen a couple good runs last season, but I checked his stats and I think they support my case. Granted, he only had 13 carries last season, but at least 3 of those were for 7 yards or more. That's almost 25%. The guy is built like a tank and he doesn't stop until he hears the whistle. I think that if we truly want to get back to the ground and pound, we should think about giving #38 the ball a little more and let him wear down the defense. A lot of people are talking about the wildcat opportunities the Jets might have with Tebow at QB. If we give Conner the ball a little more often, the defense is going to have to respect him as yet another potential runner, and not just a blocker.
That's my take on Conner. Feel free to rip it apart if you want, but I'm still learning, so comments with justification are greatly appreciated.
