I'm presenting my case on why Aaron Maybin will be menacing offensive lines this upcoming season. He is my breakout candidate for this upcoming season.
I'm predicting Aaron Maybin to have no less than 10 sacks this year. I feel like he was never given a fair shot in Buffalo. When we picked him up last off-season after Buffalo cut him. I had a gut feeling that good things was coming from him by just looking at his first interview with the Jets. He has that passion to silence his critics about being labeled as a bust. This guy has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove to everyone wrong. He may not be super strong but he don't give up on trying to bring the quarterback down. Hopefully in this off-season, he has gotten his strength up to push blockers out of the way instead of always going around them. Glad that he got his weight up to 241 and counting but I'm not concerned about his weight. I just want to see his strength rise so he can tackle better.
Since linebackers coach Mike Smith is not leaving us like initially expected. Maybin has gotten a whole year working with him to improve his techniques. So I am highly optimistic that he will know some pass rushing moves to get past o-linemen and running back.
With the addition of Quinton Coples. Maybin should be able to get to the QB even quicker now since teams would now have to account for the whole defensive line. Maybin should take full advantage of teams doubling Pouha, Mo-Wilk, and Coples.
Barring injuries. I'm excited about this season coming up and I'm also certain that Maybin will get 10-20 sacks this year to prove his nay-sayers wrong.
Take my word that he will get no less than 10 sacks. I guarantee it will happen. Remember I said it and if he doesn't meet my expectations. Someone remind me when the season is over then I will create a post acknowledging that I was wrong.
Even though David Harris been my favorite Jets player since 2007. If Maybin steps up in a big way this year. I guess I have a new jersey to buy.
