Draft Day Questions?

There are several players that in my opinion can be selected from this years draft and make an immediate impact. In the first round it would be safe to say that as many as three QB's will be selected prior to the 16th pick, which should help the Jets in landing their first difference maker. Every draft is different but one constant remains, there is always a player or two that falls on draft day, with that being said I say the Jets would be wise to remain at 16 and then make a decision. The thought of adding a WR like M. Floyd excites me, as with the recent rule changes the passing game should be exploited. A top WR would benefit M. Sanchez as well as the other receivers and would help the RB's too. Would I trade up to get him? No, but I would not pass on him in the event he was on the board at 16. The offense is the weak side of the ball, and RT was the weakest link. The team can find a talented OT in the mid to latter rounds to push the under performing players whom I feel will benefit from the new coaching changes.

The lack of "Pass Rush" has been a problem for far too long, and it's high time the F.O. addresses the issue. I am thinking that OLB/DE M. Ingram will be on the board at 16, and if so the Jets should run with pick in hand. The LB corps is aging on a team that is for the most part young. I could be happy with other players(Coples/T. Richardson/M.Floyd)but in my opinion they will all be gone by 16 and Ingram would be the first impact player selected for our upcoming season. In the event that Ingram is gone as well, I would hope the F.O. does the wise thing and trades down. I have seen many "mock" drafts sending C. Upshaw to the Jets, I was high on him for awhile as well. Then I asked myself "Who would benefit the Jets team more, C. Upshaw or D. Hightower and H. Smith"? There are other options too, Perry,Barron,Hill or Wright? With so many talented players it would be foolish to do anything else. Either we get our target, a player falls to our lap or we trade down. It is not like we have only one weakness, or one hole to fill

Last season showed us many things, hopefully the F.O. was paying attention as I would hate to think the same mistakes will be repeated. Gang Green Nation has grown in leaps and bounds since the arrival of R. Ryan. He is a coach that players want to play for. He has done a lot with the talent level he has had, last seasons 8-8 finish was not acceptable to him as evidenced by his coaching changes. The fans also felt slighted by the off year, which all things considered was not that bad(Schotty is gone), 4 of the 5 starting O-Lineman played hurt for some part of the year and the loss of talent was huge as evidenced by the comp. picks in this years draft. The starting safeties were among the leagues worst but the team was still among the best against the pass, due to strong CB play. Since R. Ryan's arrival the draft picks have been few, but for the most part good. This year the team has plenty of picks going into the draft, and with the positions in need of upgrades we can only hope that the team drafts athletic football players. I have been preaching the need for Size, Speed and Smarts since the season ended. The need for players with strong leadership skills, character and integrity can not be overstated.
