Hello there hoodlums! I started doing this a few weeks ago over at ILWT, and now I figure all the Jets fans would enjoy it too. Here's what I had to say from my previous posts:
So I figured we could all have a little bit fun with this thread, and this will open the eyes of some people who are looking to buy
Easter/Passover/Generic Spring HolidayBirthday/Memorial Day/Generic Summer Holiday gifts for their friends and family. I wanted to kind of take a few DevilsJets merchandise items of interest across the internet, whether they're silly, cool, or strange, and put them in a place where they could be discussed. So please join me after the jump to check out a few pieces of merchandise and discuss your own.
In addendum: People on ILWT liked the EBay stuff, and not the stuff from internet stores. I don't know why but that's what I'm going to do.
Disclaimer: It's not my job to figure out if this stuff is authentic, so please don't assume it is and take the necessary steps to ensure that you got the stated product.
Piece #1: Jim Leonhard Game Worn Helmet
So let's kick this off with an authentic game used piece. This is a Ridell Speed helmet worn by Jim Leonhard two seasons ago. As many of you know, NFL game worn helmets of this variety don't come around often, and so it would make sense this is pricey. If you have an extra $1350 to kick around, this is an investment that is a really cool conversation piece, and would look good in any Jets fan's bedroom/bar/man cave.
Piece #2: 1967 Vintage Jets Pennant
People like pennants. They especially like really cool penants, because they're one of those things that are kind of old school and never really out of place. Vintage pennants are special because they're one of the earliest forms of merchandise, from an era before people wore mass produced jerseys, and had Fatheads in their room. To me this vintage piece is one that I would even consider framing, and for the cost of $14.99 you can too.
Piece #3: Freeman McNeil SI Rookie Poster
Freeman McNeil is one of the favorite players of many old school Jets fans, and that's why this poster is a great gift idea. According to the sellers these SI posters were common in the late 70's and early 80's, and were some of the few officially licensed NFL posters available. This poster prices in at $40, and again I believe that this is something that gets framed, and gets given to your Dad/Grandpa for an early summer gift.
Piece #4: Jets 1967 Bobblehead
For some reason 1967 is the year of choice today; either way this is a very classic looking Jets bobblehead dated at 1967. You can see the old school, faded Jets logo on the helmet. The underside is labeled with the manufacturers name and address. The paint is somewhat chipped in some spots, but the jersey and helmet remain bright. Again, a nice gift to perhaps put in a case or on a shelf for an older fan, especially at a low price like $11
Piece #5: 1967 Jets Yearbook
A Jets 1967 yearbook is featured here. The imagery on the front is a shot of Shea Stadium with Joe Namath front and center. Notice the orange the AFL refs are wearing as well. The book is aged, but in good condition with it's spine intact. Another great collectors item, and one to put in a display bookshelf or on a coffee table. At $75 one could potentially find books like this which are slightly less expensive, however for someone looking for this particular year it seems as though there are few available.
So that's all for today. Hopefully you all will drop some feedback, and we can turn this into a weekly thread. Please if you have anything of your own you would either like to suggest or sell, either drop it here or get in contact with me in the off topic thread.
