Whether you agree with the acquisition of Tim Tebow or not, he is here to stay and if any city can handle it NY and Florham Park, NJ can. Initially when the rumors about the Jets being interested in him surfaced, I didn’t believe it, and I thought, the idea is fun but he’s so much better to watch on someone else’s team. Then, the news was out that it was between the Jets and the Jaguars and it’s possible the Jet’s were in the lead. I started to see the light (a pun intended) and was rooting for Tebow to be a Jet. I know, crazy, makes no football sense, but later I thought maybe it does. Taking in everything I read various websites, blogs and comments in Tweets I came to the conclusion that this move actually makes good sense and gives fans what they were asking for, someone to push Sanchez to get better as well as answers the critics who claim he was being coddled because he knows his jobs not in jeopardy, well problem solved!
Tim Tebow was a great choice, because the only way Sanchez gets to keep is job is to play better, not just a little better a lot better. Sanchez is clearly the better QB mechanically speaking but right now Tebow has momentum and all the right other things going for him. By shear will he can bend events to his advantage. We have all seen it. Tim Tebow is a Rock Star and he is now playing for the Jets. I think we are lucky to have him.
I read about how people feel bad for Sanchez, and I thought that way too. I thought it is a good thing he is on the West Coast. Imagine driving into the Lincoln Tunnel to see the Jockey billboard welcoming Tebow to New York. I truly want to see Sanchez turn next season around and look like the confident great QB we all want him to be. Last summer I wrote a post about "How I became a fan of Mark Sanchez after following him on Twitter." I felt he did all the right things for his image and his team and was hoping that would translate on the field. Obviously, we all know that didn’t happen. A year later, he’s a different guy, humbled maybe, and it’s possibly the first real adversity he has ever encountered in his life. After the season he went into hiding, soul searching probably and definitely training. Good, I hope it translates into great play. Human nature and loyalty makes me want to feel bad for the guy but he’s a very lucky guy who gets a lot of money to play a game and even got a contract extension. His fate is in his hands. He gets to continue being the starting QB for the Jets if he produces and plays not just a little better but a lot better. Tebow will try real hard to take his job and if anyone can do it he can do it but Mark is the one that has the power right now and not the legions of fans that will be chanting Tebow in the stands and buying Tebow jerseys.
I do hope Sanchez gets a bit more vocal either with the press or with his fans just to make us remember who the starter really is. Tebow clearly is a media darling and he is a natural at it, never saying the wrong thing. I think he won over some haters too at his press conference. With that being said, I would like to see Tebow go back to LA to work on his QB mechanics until the day he returns to Jersey to work with the coaches for real and the press stop talking about the QB controversy, until we can see them both in action. I hope in this controversy actions and success on the field are the only things that matter.
In the meantime the rest of us should look forward to an exciting Final Four in New Orleans, opening day of baseball season, Tiger Woods hopefully keeping the Masters Tournament must see TV, the hockey and basketball playoffs, the Saints getting their coaching situation under control and hoping the NFL draft will be everything we want it to be. During all this Jockey will replace their billboard at the Lincoln tunnel and the Republicans will settle on a candidate, maybe. Hopefully our summer will be filled with weekends of superb beach weather, gas prices will magically go down and their won’t be too many pictures of a pregnant Snookie appearing at a night club in Seaside this summer during the filming of the 6th season of Jersey Shore.
