MTD Live Draft Results

Over the weekend was the 2nd live draft on Mocking The Draft . For this draft i changed things up and got a war room set up where other GGN members could have an imput . We also changed up our draft needs from our first one putting a bigger emphasis on strengthening our O Line .

First of let me start by thanking all the other guys who contributed in the war room over the 3 days . The results are as follows .

We made a trade with the Tennessee Titans . The terms of this trade were

Titans get Jets 1st and 2nd round picks . Jets get Titans 1st , 3rd , 5th , 7th along with their 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2013 . The reason wemade this trade was because we gained 2 extra picks this year and next . it was also very good value .

1st round Titans ( 20 )

Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa .

We get a really good RT to help our QB stay healthy . This was a massive need for us going into this draft and to get the 2nd best tackle in the draft at 20 was an absolute steal . He will be a starter from day one and will help us forget about Wayne Hunter very quickly .

3rd round

George Iloka, FS, Boise State

This was a massive hole that we felt we needed to fill early in the draft . He has the size to match up with TE's and is a massive upgrade over Smith . He needs work but will have to learn on the job unless we sign a FS in FA . With a poor safety stock in this years draft Iloka is one of the very few that has the size we need . We could have good combination at safety playing Iloka and Landry together .

3rd round

Josh Kaddu, OLB, Oregon

Who ? Trust me you will hear more about this guy after his proday . I see this guy as a quality blitzer who can make plays in the back field all day long . He isn't an every down guy but has massive upside . He had a great East-West Shrine game , had a very impressive combine in all the positional drills . He was the best pass rusher available when we picked and although it may be a little high for him , i think he will add more speed to our LB core . HE had 9.5 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks this year . Lining him up with Meyhem will give QB's real trouble . Not even close to his positional yet .

5th round

Tony Bergstrom, G/T, Utah

Another BPA pick . This guy could go in the 3rd round after his impressive showing at the Senior Bowl . He could play RT for us but i see him as a perfect replacement for Moore at RG next year . Moore is in his last year of his contract and if Bergstrom gets a year to develop he would be our starting RG in 2013 .

5th round

Jerry Franklin, ILB/OLB, Arkansas

Versatile player who has a habit of making plays in the back field with 10 tackles for loss on the season and 13 TFL and 6.5 sacks last year . Although not an immediate need , i see him as a very good replacement for Bart Scott in 2013 . He could be moved around and help our pass rush too. Brings some badly needed speed to our LB core

6th round

Gerell Robinson, WR, Arizona State

We eventually get ourselves a WR here . Robinson is a tall possession WR that could contribute in the red zone . We put WR as less of a need this time because of our new ground & pound offense . He was very good value in the 6th round . i have seen mocks with him going as high as the 4th .

7th round

Daniel Herron, RB, Ohio State

Herron was good value here . The combine hurt his stock a bit along with a six game suspension this season . The word i would use describing him is " Potential " . He has a very good upside and having another RB in the rotation should help our ground & pound game .

7th round

Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU

Reynolds was a BPA pick . He is a steal in the 7th round . Adds badly needed depth to the O Line . He could be a very good rotational guy and would replace Hunter and his salary as a very good back up .

7th round

Cordarro Law, OLB, Southern Miss

BPA and we add another high upside guy to our pass rush . A steal at the end of the 7th round . Law had 64 tackles with 22 tackles for a loss, 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles this year . I think he could be excellent working under Rex Ryan . He is the type of player that could hit double figures in sacks for us . All that for a 7th round pick .

Travis Benjamin, WR, Miami

Speed guy . Ran a 4.36 at the combine . Could be a good development player . With some work he could be a match up nightmare for opposition CB's .

Sean Cattouse, SS, California

Decent college career . Had a better than expected combine . 6'2" with 76 tackles , 2ints and a sack this year . With some coaching could be a very good back up after we get rid of Smith .

Julian Miller, DE, West Virginia

Miller had 57 tackles with 11 tackles for a loss, six sacks and two forced fumbles in 2011 . He played some NT this year ( crazy ) but at 6-3. and 256. lbs with a 40 time around the 4.70 mark , he could be the diamond in the rough that could shine with a coach like Rex Ryan .

Shaun Powell, P, Florida State

Powell led the nation with 47 yards per punt in 2011 and in his career at Florida State, Powell averaged 46 yards per punt. Massive upgrade over T J and was the best punter available .

Thanks for reading guys . I hope this sheds some light on our thought process during this draft and although i'm sure the vast majority of readers would have done some things different i hope there are some things about this draft you like . I hope you feel we addressed most of our needs , upgraded areas of the the team while also having an eye on the future with some of our picks and also coming away with 2 additional high picks next year .

Feel free to grade our draft , critique , pat us on the back or just leave your own observations below .
