Let's be honest. Perhaps the biggest thorn in our side last season wasn't a triumvirate of diva WRs, poor QB play, or having casper the ghost play RT. For me at least it was horrendous play calling. Yes I am referring to Brain "let's call three 3-yard plays for a first down" Schottenheimer.
One week after the slapstick comedy that was the Miami game, what was priority number 1? Find a new OC. And we did, thank you St. Louis! So until I see Marky Mark under a competent OC (which I think we have), I find it hard to judge him for Schottenheimer's shortcomings. This was the best move our FO could make in the offseason.
Let me know if anyone else feels this way but there were times at the end of the season I wondered if Schotty was attempting to sabotage Mark to secure a future job elsewhere. It looked like he knew he was on the way out and decided who better to push the blame onto for crappy plays than the QB? I doubt he's intelligent enough to do that but it's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, as far as comparing Tebow to Sanchez statistically it doesn't hold water. Tebow's coaching staff was wise enough to build the offense around him, while I think we threw Mark under the bus a bit. I think/hope this could be Mark's year to shine under Sparano, and I think using Tebow as we used Brad Smith could make us a very hard team to beat.
