throughout the past few days, i've read a lot about Tebow and what position he'll play. It's gone from QB, to TE, to HB, to even RB. While I think it's fairly clear that he'll be listed as the #2 QB, this discussion spurred some thoughts in my brain. When I read somewhere that he could be listed as our #2 RB, I nearly cringed. We already have a thousand yard back, and an up-and-coming 3rd down back, who I believe is one of the most explosive players on our offense.
I'm curious what you guys think of our current running back tandem. Take the jump for a bit of analysis
As our #1 running back, we have Shonn Green, a bruising power back who prefers running people over to breaking their ankles with a juke (something i'm not quite sure he's capable of). He's a rhythm back, he needs repetition to get going and start doing what he does best, tanking through the defense. When properly utilized, he can wear down the defense and grind out yardage efficiently. I've never seen a thousand yard running back criticized as much as Greene has been, he's questioned very frequently, despite being the victim of a mentally deficient OC.
Then there's Joe McKnight, our #2 back. Known for leading the league in kickoff returns, he's a shifty back capable of lining up in multiple packages. Rex even brought him in on defense as a CB to blitz during the Ravens game. Against the Giants, he lined up as a wide receiver and beat a linebacker down the sideline, if Sanchez had made that throw it would have been a touchdown. McKnight is a matchup nightmare, who was also a victim of having Schotty as an OC. If he was properly utilized, I believe he could have been an amazing weapon for us.
Now i ask you, are you confident with our running back tandem going into the 2012 season?
Also, what would you think if we nabbed Richardson in the draft? would you be satisfied then?
