Those of you who saw the title and still managed to click on it, thanks for being curious/bored/crazy enough to hear me out.
I've been thinking about how Tebow could best improve the Jets since all of the trade talk first started, and I realized that maybe we've been debating his potential effectiveness on the wrong side of the ball. What if Tim Tebow could be the pass-rushing OLB the Jets have been looking for? I'm not really looking to debate whether or not he would actually want to make the move. I'm curious to see if my fellow GGN'ers could see him lining up outside on 3rd and long!
He's 6'3", ~230 pounds, 4.6-40yd, and has great arm strength. We've seen him plow through and move around defenders while clutching onto a football. I"m really interested in what kind of speed and explosiveness he would have from a standing or 3 pt stance.
Obviously he would need to learn some new techniques and "redistribute" his athleticism, but so what? Aaron Maybin has been getting sacks with the Jets by refining and learning new techniques. I would argue that they posses a similar kind of athleticism (with the exception of Maybin's explosiveness). We also have the best corner tandem in the game. Coverage sacks all day baby.
PS Apparently Tebow is already getting started with his spin move, although it appears to be a work in progress:
Seriously though, I think he could do it.
