New York Jets Sign Kris O'Dowd

The Jets signed Mark Sanchez's college center, Kris O'Dowd, today.

Salpointe and USC grad Kris O'Dowd signs with the New York Jets today after working out with them this morning

O'Dowd stands 6'4" and weighs 304 pounds. He was the first true freshman to start at center in USC history. He was First Team All Pac 10 blocking for Sanchez in 2008.

I am guessing O'Dowd will just be a body for training camp. He was an undrafted free agent who spent preseason with the Arizona Cardinals last year but was cut before Week 1. One can only imagine the Jets are not planning to rely on him for any sort of prominent backup role. That would have shades of Colin Baxter all over again. It was somewhat odd the team moved so quickly on O'Dowd, but maybe they see something good in him they think Tony Sparano can develop.
