"According to reports, Chad Pennington is expected to officially announce his retirement in the coming days."
We'll have more once this goes official. For now, get him in as a QB coach.

One of my favourite Jets players of all time. Hopefully he comes back to the Jets in some capacity.

He said he wouldn’t be playing anymore, IIRC, but this is would be him filing the official papers with the NFLPA.

Chad
He would have been our Montana. Nothing makes me more upset as a Jet fan as the Pennington injuries. Worse than the combined Miami mud bowl AFC Championship loss and the AFC Championship loss against Denver where Parcells or the OC called the halfback option pass for Leon Johnson that got picked. 41-0 in the playoffs against Peyton Manning will live forever.
It gets by Buckner!
I'll say this until the end of time
If Chad didn’t get hurt against the Giants in the Preseason the Jets would have won the Super Bowl in 03

??
What qualifies Chad to be a qb coach. Has he taken any coaching training: hands on or otherwise. Does he have any desire for coaching?
Chad’s intangibles as an accurate passer, a good reader of defences and an intelligent guy point to him being a good coach, but you won’t know until you give him a chance. He has showed interest in being a coach, it was a while ago I read an interview with him. Although he specified he would prefer to coach the high school level rather than the pro level because he wanted to help players on a personal level and a football level.

Thanks for explaining it
I know he is an accurate passer and all, going to high school would help him fine tune his teaching. The pro level is so stopgap and being a young coach, who has not cut his teeth could be a little challenging.

The guy has an undisputedly high football IQ and obvious experience under center, why would he not be qualified? This could be a guy who we bring in and ends up being a 10-15 year staple on the staff, I would imagine like myself any jet fan wouldn’t mind taking the chance over the status quo
Chad was an incredibly hard worker
That’s a guy who has been in Sanchez’s position before. I’d love for him to come to the Jets

please help sanchez
bring in chad, not the most gifted qb in football but got by on his brains. hes the one person who can help out Sanchez.
Help Sanchez...? How about helping McElroy?
I love Chad and his work ethic, intelligence, and his knowledge of the game, and I would love to have him back with the Jets in some capacity.
His similarities with McElroy are surprising: both are products of southern high school football, both led their college teams to undefeated years and conference championships, both won MVPs in their college championships, both are accurate passers, both had 3.8 GPAs, and both were Rhodes Scholar finalists. This could be something big in terms of moving McElroy’s development along.
gone, but never forgotten
Chad, you’ll always have a special place in the hearts of us Jets fans.

Wayne Hunter
didnt know where else to put this but the Jets had until today to cut Hunter or pay him 2.45 million guaranteed next season. It looks like the time has passed and he is guaranteed this money which is way too much for the way he played last season.
Yeah, I heard about that.
But there’s so little information out there about this that I’m waiting to hear the official announcement first before reporting it.

According to Cimini in this link, Wayne is staying...

He’s a good backup, but i don’t get why they’re not even cutting his pay. Do we seriously as fans have to sit through the torture of him getting beat over and over again for another season?
If only...
I could get paid that kind of money for sucking that bad at my job.
Precisely what did he do last year that even implied he deserved to be paid anything above the league minimum?
I gotta be honest, I don't understand the assumption that he'd be a good QB coach
he was bright and serviceable but I think we shouldn’t pursue a name, but rather the best fit for the job.

A name would be Brian Schottenheimer, not because of his history developing QBs, but because his dad was Marty. Pennington was a deadly accurate passer that is extremely cerebral. If he were to get the nod it’s because he was a good quarterback, marred by injuries, that understands the fundamentals the position requires. Him teaching those fundamentals is what’s key, because they’re precisely what Sanchez lacks.

Chadwick was really the first Jet I identified with
I really didn’t get into football until I was a little bit older, and so around the Monday Night Miracle was the first time I really payed attention. Obviously with Testaverde on his way out, it was so easy to root for a gamer like Chad. I would love to see him become our QB coach. It certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea. His intelligence is one thing but here’s the other thing, if Sanchez is going to become the Alex Smith/Joe Flacco type game manager, he needs to be better on the short routes. Too often does he just dump to running back who proceeds to get crushed after only picking up a yard. Chad was a master at the short route, obviously with his arm trouble that wasn’t by design, but he could teach Sanchez so much about check downs and quick reads.
Chad is a MUST
If you’ve seen any of my comments over the last few weeks, you’ll know that I’ve been saying that Chad should be our backup QB over all of those other names. The main reason is he could help Sanchize develop. We have to try to sign him as a backup or a QB coach. Hey – maybe as a player coach. I know that’s roster spot, but I’d be happy with it. Tanny & Rex should camp out at his door and not leave until he signs.
GREAT Coaching wins in this league, & we need a good coach at the most important position – QB.
SIGN CHAD NOW!!! SIGN CHAD NOW!!! SIGN CHAD NOW!!! (come on – say it with me.)

Being cerebral and smart doesn't mean you'll be a good coach
There are plenty of absolutely brilliant people who completely suck at teaching. If he could get his teeth cut as an intern, though, I’d be willing to try. He should be in some role in the organization if he’s interested.

Chad knows how to be a Pro, Leader and a, Team mate. Which is what Sanchez needs to learn. Penny also had a great play action move he knew his limits, so what did he do instead he became a professor of the west coast offense and worked on his accuracy and became deadly with it. IMO he should translate well to Sanchez and can really help him become a very good QB.
