6-5, 350, athlete
Ok, I'm gonna level with you... I know nada about O-line play. I can't speak with a lick of intelligence towards what makes a good OL guy or a bad one, and I won't even pretend I can talk about technique as far they are concerned. I'll leave the expert OL analysis to JB and Can'tWait. But dangit, I know talent when I see it. And Cordy Glenn is one talented mofo. People... men that weigh 350 lbs aren't supposed to be able to move like this guy. Yeah, I'd like to see him a little meaner and a little nastier. I'd like to see him really uncork on some dude and drive him 5-10 yards off scrimmage. But that stuff can be learned. You can teach mentality. However, you can't "learn" to be 350 lbs with nimble feet. Cordy Glenn is dang freak and I want this man on our team.
Glenn can start, right now, at Right Tackle and we'd have the best pass pro in the league. But I really think he'd be an All-Pro caliber player at LG with his ability to not only maul, but to pull around the edge and destroy fools. If we can get Ducasse to click and were able to stick Glenn at LG, we'd have a freaking DOMINANT o-line. Or we can just stick him at RT and still be pretty dang on good.
Glenn just might be the perfect OL pick to launch the true ground & pound scheme that we've been paying lip service to.

Can't you just make one post that says every single senior in college?
You’ve made 12 posts or something like that about each draft prospects.
MARK SANCHEZ HAD BETTER STATS THAN TEBOW.
So either Sanchez is better than " second coming " or you have to admit that Tebow is no good.
I never make sense.
Ask Chris Long.

I like him. He played really well at the Senior Bowl.
I think he is a hybrid type guy, but definitely would be more valuable at left guard. I don’t see him being an option either. If it’s between him and Mike Adams, give me Adams every time. They will both likely be available at 16.

Mike Adams is huge, just towers over everybody
I see Mike Adams as more of a LT, I just don’t see him as much as s Drive Blocker. Cordy Glenn, although playing LT in college is more suited in the NFL to be a Right Tackle/or RG because he is a great drive blocker. 16 is too high for either of these guys, and Adams or Glenn won’t make it to 48, so I think the only way either of these guys become a Jet are in trade Down or up scenarios.
P.S. What is the risk that Cordy eats himself out of the league ?
Where did you see that, Glenn got beat on consistant basis all week long; no thanks Levy Adcock much better

I didn't read it anywhere...I watched it.
I closely payed attention to the war in the trenches that week and Glenn impressed me, along with many professional scouts. People were curious to see how is size affects his play and he showed that he is a 280 lb man in a 350 lb frame. He is fairly agressive, shadows well, and his footwork is excellent. If he can develop more power he is special. He is already a mid-late first rounder. A good combine could boost him into the top 22 or so.

A few mocks already have him in the 20's
I think your right about the senior bowl too. I remember reading alot of good things about him after the game.
He does have good footwork and has great size as well but I disagree about your 280lb man in a 350lb frame comment. I think he’s got a little too much weight on him right now. He showes a small lack of control over his body at times and it can get him in trouble.
If I were him I’d drop a few LB’s by the combine and show scouts he can be even quicker on his feet. He doesn’t need to be that heavy to be effective at what he does.
He Looks Like A Very, Very Good Prospect
but there are players like him available in almost every draft. There aren’t stud pass rushing OLB prospects available in every draft. Besides, we don’t have to have a dominant OL with Pro Bowlers at every position. All we need is one that is solid, that executes with precision as a unit, so that our playmakers can make plays, get big gains, sustain drives, and score points. With a simpler offense and supposedly easier reads, Sanchez ought to be able to improve, making quicker reads and getting the ball out sooner. That will negate the need for such a stud prospect for the OL. Revis is the only playmaker we have on D. We need at least one playmaker in the front 7. Even a bigger, faster WR target is more important in round one than a stud OL.

My opinion isn't so much that he's a little bit of a project as much as he just isn't a good fit for the team.
He is the complete opposite of Vlad but still needs tons of work.
Most people will hear me say that and go “Great! he’s nothing like Vlad. Draft him now!” Stick with me for a moment and you might find that some of you would come to look at PROSPECTS at O-line in a different way.
Glenn is Huge! But at 350 pounds he’s about the same size as Vlad and you might find that after looking at both play the position that they carry that load very differently. Of course size isn’t all that matters. You don’t have to be this big to play this position well but It’s in how you carry that weight in both aspects of line blocking that sheds light on what you can be in the NFL.
Watch Glenn at T in the passing game. His tech is raw and flawed but there is more to it which makes saying “He can be coached up” a little more tuff to say.
The good. At his best his technique is sound and looks acceptable- his inital step out of his stance is solid. It’s not too deep and he does a good job keeping his weight under him before contact. But it’s not long before it all turns bad. The next step or two for a T should have the prospect looking to keep himself clean and his hands out in front of him and ready for the inital shove he wants to give the rusher to keep him honest and buy his QB a nice chunk of the inital 3 seconds of protection he needs. Glenn does that but it’s when he makes contact that it goes wrong. There are two types of Tackles when it comes to how they block a rushers outside rush move. “Blockers” and “riders”. Glenn isn’t just a rider- he latches on to his assignment and hangs on. And when I say latch I mean “hold”. I constantly get the impression that his lower body is trying desperatly to keep up with the girth above his waist. He uses that to his advantage most of the time but whenever you see a Tackle get great inside hand position and then just lean his girth forward like that. It makes you wonder if thats gonna fly at the next level. He will look down right horrible against guys who are good at protecting their breast plate and who have good hand movement. But then againmost players already do in that circumstance.
Now watch Vlads drop step and foot movement in the passing game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwLp0hBtWsg
Notice his chopping feet. Constantly shifting his weight front and back, front and back, Keeping his hands free. He never latches on too soon and he never puts too much of his weight out in front of him. That punch that Mayock points out is not something that Glenn has in his tool box. He can’t control his upper body enough to do it. If Glenn wiffs on a punch like that he’ll be picking turf rubber out of his nose for the next few plays. Go back to Cordy and watch similer plays at Tackle. If you get the impression that he his occasionally running after the top half of his body then your starting to catch my point. Glenn can’t carry this much weight and it’s a detriment to him at the level he plays at now. It stands to get even worse In the NFL.
The running game is another problem. Cordy is what people call a finesse blocker. Go back to his tapes at T and watch how soft he is. Finesse blockers operate out of a different skill set than maulers like Vlad. Glenn looks to attack his assignments playside shoulder and wall off his man in almost every occasion. (2:40 in the BS game is a perfect example) He should be looking to drive his assignment off the ball on the play. The play has a FB hitting the hole and his man is playing a gap. The block is right there for him to absolutely donimate the guy and he gets stood up without making any ground. He lets the the other guy dictate to him. The running game is about occupying the space infront of you before the other guy does and he should know that by now. Glenn has the size to dominate that space infront of him but he doesn’t. This kid is a monster at 350 plus and he plays the run game like a kitten. He has all the tools to be a beast in the run game but he’s got a timid nature.
Thats is where teams like the Jets have to make their decision. Can the Jets teach a kid like this to manage his weight properly and bring out a little nasty in him? His weight is an issue and he could very well eat himself out of the league like Jet Orange has already said. It sounds funny to say but it’s very true. He already has problems controling his girth and he plays like he’s too top heavy to boot. I don’t like the way he moves under that heavy load. It’s not natural for a big man like that. It makes me think he ate his way to putting on that weight instead of adding muscle in addition to fat.
He is a solid prospect at T. I still like Vlad at G because he could develop into the best runblocker on the team there. But I wonder if the team is ready to give up on making Vlad a tackle yet. Vlad still has the higher ceiling at that position imo. He handles the weight better and has a year under him. Glenn could start and play better than Hunter this year but I think Vlad could do the same after this years camp. I just don’t know how I feel about drafting another tackle in the 2nd round. I could see a mid round pick going to the position but not another premium pick. I also don’t find Glenn as versital as you do, Crack. He’s a RT on this team. He can’t block the run the way he would need to at Guard. Not without a total change in mentality and some retooling.
If the team was sold on Making Vlad a guard and this kid was there at the top of the second I could be convinced to make a move for him but I have reservations as to where his ceiling is and if he can elevate his play for the NFL.

I just realized I'm being a little too negative. Thats not fair
He has very quick feet for a guy his size, Crack. Your right about that. I do like the idea of him at RT. He would be right away better then what we have now in Hunter. It’s just that I still don’t know if Vlad is a guard or tackle. Tony has a history with lineman. I wonder if he’s made a decision on Vlad yet?
This is why you rock CW.
Thank you for breaking it down. I always feel smarter after reading your stuff. And I agree, it is a bit disconcerting to see a guy that big and that athletic NOT knocking people around. But I felt like that kinda thing can be brought out through coaching and culture, as well as pure survival mode kicking in (its amazing how quickly the kitty turns tiger when he has to). But its the stuff you brought up about technique and his girth being more fat weight than muscle weight that really struck home and makes me see him in an entirely different light. Any of us that have played ball has faced that guy at some point. That guy that looks like a big badass from afar and then when you lay into him and knock him around, you not only lose respect for him, but you’re actually disgusted at him for letting you kick his ass like that. And that quality is definitely apparent in Glenn. Its definitely something you would want to dig deeper into and get a good look at him at the combine, make sure his bench is respectable, talk to his coaches, and see what kind of man he really is. If he’s a big fat softy, then hell no. If he just has a finesse mentality, but could beast if in a different culture, then I might take a chance on him. Sometimes all Ferdinand needs is a sting.
Great Post! Rec'd
Thanks for your input. Like crack, I don’t know much about OL play and I appreciate your insights into technique and important details. That makes total sense. We already have a starting LT that is a bit of a liability in the rushing attack. We don’t need another. We need a mauling drive blocker at RT. That’s why I think it would be a mistake to use a first round pick on this kid and especially on the Z. Sanders kid from FSU.

Yeah
I don’t think there’s enough time to invest on a project for the O line

Yeah I don't know much about Sanders besides the viral video of him being stupid.
The only thing I can be sure of is he was getting his ass handed to him at the senior bowl practices. He may be intellegent and all that. And I’m not about to hold that one viral play against him when judging him for the draft but there should be some positive tape on the guy and there just isn’t.
For Whatever It's Worth
DraftInsider.net doesn’t even have Glenn ranked as an OT, but has him as the 2nd best OG. They say it’s a good, deep draft at OG, so if true, the Jets could easily pick up an OG in the mid or lower rounds.
Also, Levy Adcock is not rated as an OT, but rather as an OG (6th).

I kind of agree with the reasoning. Good point, Joe.
His quick feet make him look like a great pulling guard. His pass protection was much better there too. I think he was over his head when he was out on an island at LT.
But if he’s gonna be asked to run with a power, smash mouth running game he’s gonna have to drop a pair first. I guess I wouldn’t be suprised if a team with a solid passing game and a running game thats likes to pull their guards drafted him.
