Bro Namath Needs Your Help (Unrec please)

With the end of the season also comes the end of the most riveting and in-demand articles in all of SBNation, my game previews and occasional wrap ups. Since then there has been an enormous void, and the people are suffering - crying out for their dear Hombre Namath to return to them. Fear not, dear people of Gang Green Nation, your minister of snark is here.

I need a new weekly feature for the offseason, and one of you are gonna figure out what that should be, and you're gonna like it. This is the time for your to voice your opinions or ideas of what you would like to see more of on the GGN front page. Besides tinley and a few choice others taking this chance to say "mock drafts lol", not much is off limits suggestion-wise. Just don't say player interviews, it's really hard to get Jim Leonhard to talk to a guy drunk-calling and identifying himself as Bro Namath early in the morning.

Help me out and win the following prizes:

A bologna sandwich.

An empty Jets lighter with half the plastic bubbled off from burns.

A fake toe.

A real toe.

A Jets day by day calendar with the first month and a half worth of pages torn out.

One left handed Jets glove.

Some old used DVD's I don't want including: Daredevil, National Security, Mariah Carey's Glitter, and House season 1.

A used copy of NFL Madden 2009 signed by me.

My gratitude.

A link to one of your fanposts or something else of your choosing in the weekly segment you help create.

For anyone else who doesn't want to help, you may use this post as an all purpose dumping ground for off topic comments of images. Or just ask me questions or lavish me with compliments and make me feel pretty. And as always, thank you for using GGN.

~Bro Namath

Hell yeah. Complete with a poll so fans can vote for the ones they want. So the next time Tanny drops by GGN we’ve made his job easier, since the shopping list is already filled out.

but I can’t offer that as my weekly contribution to GGN. I’m certainly not opposed to doing it in addition.

How about retrospectives on previous seasons

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

well

i have a few suggestions:

1. weekly picture caption contest. like this one:

2. top 25 jets of all-time.
3. seinfeld gifs on the front page
4.favorite regular season jet games, we could post ours
5. player profiles
6. more fun on the front page, i don’t know how, this is why you are the writer
7. off season plan contest. they have this on the mets site, and it’s great. people can make a fanpost about their offseason plans, they have to send it in by a dead line. the writers pick some that they thought were the best, and they are put to a vote. i know some peole posted there off-season plans already, but lets see them do it within the salary cap.
8. we should get free food

you're pretty

that’s my compliment. as for the weekly posts, you could make a post on stopping a different team’s offense every week and make a simplified playbook for it. not sure if you know what I’m talking about but I did that before the second Pats game (didn’t post it here though). It’s more fun than it sounds, lol. Or we could post the key points/ideas/playbooks and have big conversations about it. Or you can write my essays for school. I would say Draft prospects but that’s being covered by David/Crack

Ideas:

Weekly retrospective of the last season: You would do film break downs with the high lights of what went right and what went wrong. Highlighting the right things we did in games we lost and pointing out some flaws from the loses.

The Brodown or Morning Cup of Bro: Angry and apparently drunken Bro Namath takes aim at Jet related news with his own spin and snarky wit. If no news is available you take a random week in Jet History and act like it happened this week. Regardless of the content of the season, year etc, i.e. you pretend the 2000 draft selections were selected this year and you react accordingly based on 2012 needs.

Praise or Bash a Jet:
Each week Bro takes time out of his busy schedule to approve or disapprove of the job a player/coach as done. Not a stay or go segment, just a praise or hate.

The More You Know with Bro:
Random bits of information or new things happening in the league that can affect the Jets. Rule changes, hiring or firing of coaches, draft information. Similar Flight Connections only a lot less and more information about the significance for the Jets.

And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

So far I like your ideas the most;

I’m thinking Morning Cup of Bro as a T-F daily segment where I do a quick rundown of NFL and/or Jets news. Each day can be themed somewhat different. I.E. Friday I post my favorite fanpost and fanshot of the week at the end of Morning Cup and all the interested readers do the same. Thursday could be an open thread like gifs, cats, or music like others mentioned. Mondays could be user mock Jets picks for the upcoming draft. Morning Cup or Bro can also incorporate most of the other ideas you mentioned.

I’m going to be doing MDGeekyGrl’s advice column as a weekly fanshot feature, so please send me questions, comments, and hate mail for an off-color column.

As far as weekly segment goes; I’m giving heavy considerations to the suggestions of retrospectives as put forward by you and YJ, Free Agents by Position by CB, and player profiles of Jets past and present as described by JetOrange and tinley.

Analysis of Every Game

One or twice a week, maybe, go through one game from last season and talk about the turning points in the game, the media surrounding it, the impact it had, maybe take some fanposts from after.

Or maybe just analylze a few key points from selected games over the season that really shaped the teams success/failure (i.e. punt block td against the cowboys, cromartie fumble against the raiders, revis pick6 against the fins, teboned/leonhard’s missed tackle, cruz 99 yds, sanchez pick against miami). I don’t know how much you know about the details of football/have a deep understanding of the plays, why they worked, etc (like a coach) but if you could talk about what the jets or the other team did in those plays that made them turn out the way they did that would be sick.

I just see these two as good loking back to last season because in my mind, each game we lost had one big play that switched the momentum for the other team or shot ourselves in the foot. And it would be nice to see why those breakdowns occurred and what couldve prevented them

I love the idea of a Flight links with your own spin.

Almost like an internal flight links for GGN. Favorite fanshot, fanpost, gif of the week, that kind of stuff like you said.
Also, how about the worst rumor of the week? Ie find a guy who makes an absurd idea or rumor floating and put it out there. Like Manning for Revis straight up that someone sent me as a joke after the Giants game. Or a guy who says the Jets should cut half the team just because. I think those always make me laugh.
Also what about a this week in Jets history thing? Like this week the Jets fired so and so, or hired so and so. I think that would be interesting, but require work.

a fan post after putting it up, usually immediately upon posting it when I notice some stupid typo. I think the option’s available to everyone. Maybe he means comments, as there doesn’t seem to be any edit options there, though I’m not sure it’s necessary as you can just post a correction as many do.

by Jabualj on Feb 6, 2012 3:26 AM EST up reply actions

It would be total chaos if people could edit their comments

People say so many irrational and stupid things on message boards that they would undo everything they said in order to win arguments and make others look dumb. I know how people are. In order to work and be legible, it would have to operate like a forum where every standard reply bares the quote of what you are replying to instead of SBN’s tree design.

Not happening. Sorry folks.

I Disagree

This is the 5th or 6th Jets’ board on which I’ve posted, and the first, I believe, where posters couldn’t edit their own posts/responses. On all those boards, I’ve never seen anyone go back and totally change what they said to avoid looking stupid. Besides, when people reply to them, they often quote the part that they thought was stupid, so it would still be there for others to see.

What it does do in a positive manner, is to allow posters to go back and fix stupid typos, or after posting, they see that the tone of their post or response was offensive, to edit and change the wording to make it more civil and respectful. I know that sometimes in the heat of a moment, I’ll fire off a response that is less than civil, but within 5 minutes will regret it. Sometimes in active threads others are posting so they would see those comments before they could be edited, but at other times, it may be an hour or more before anyone ever reads or replies in that thread. On one site, the software reflected that a post had been edited. In that way, everyone knew the post was edited by the original poster. It helps prevents some of those arguments and negativity.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. "I know that sometimes in the heat of a moment, I’ll fire off a response that is less than civil, but within 5 minutes will regret it."

The problem with that is, the way this site works by the time you regret something dozens have read and probably a few have replied to what you said. Believe me, I’ve been in that position several times.

They’re just comments, errors are OK. Reply to yourself with a correction if it’s important. If you offend someone or regret what you said, apologize and move on. There’s so much back and forth he said she said around here, I really feel that an editing function would add to confusion.

With that said it I always thought it would be cool if SBN allowed regular users to delete their own comments. I’ve deleted my own comments hundreds of times, and it’s probably saved everyone on the entire site from hating me. It’s like the one big perk of the job. But I think they’d have to tweak their programming and I understand why SBN likes the tree method.

What I can do for you is delete comments you don’t want up on request. It’s not much, but it’s something. Just reply to yourself saying you want something deleted, just be careful not to reply to that comment with anything you want saved because replies disappear with deleted comments.

If you were to build a brand new expansion team that was located in New Jersey and constituted only of this years Free Agents and this years draft picks and why you chose them with the standard cap rules but remember, you’re starting from scratch. By position fill a 53 man roster. (: I want votes on Team Name and City and when it’s all said and done would this team be enough to pull people away from being a life long Jets fan…

Some people might call it stupid but tell me you’ve never created a new team in Madden…
