Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State

Brian Quick vs Elon University 2011 (via phillyjimmyphilms)

Brian Quick 2011 Highlights WR Appalachian State (via xuesac84)

6-4, 220
2011: 71 catches for 1096 yards (15 per), 11 TDs [including a 3 catch, 110 yard performance against Va Tech].

I really like this dude. He's got a big frame and he knows how to use it. You see him shielding defenders away from his frame, as well as climbing the ladder to get balls thrown upstairs. I also love his feet. Not only is he big enough and physical enough to play bully-ball, but he's also very quick into and out of his breaks which makes him all the more difficult to cover. He hails from an offense thats supposedly predicated on running the ball (which means he wouldn't see the field unless he can block), but that doesn't seem to have kept him from running his routes with sharpness and precision. What I really like about this dude the most is the way he catches the ball. He plucks it out of the air with his hands. He doesn't let the ball travel all the way into his torso, relying on his body as a shield (a la Plax). He snatches that sucker out the air with his long arms and big hands.

Quick would be a nice fit with the Jets. He's a big, physical presence thats well schooled in run blocking. He's not a burner, but he's got good speed and uses his long strides to get deep down field. His height and ball skills make him tough to handle on the deep stuff. But he's also got the wide body and foot-quickness to be a beast to handle on the short, underneath stuff.

Speaking my language

Crackback you and me are on the same page. This kid really reminds me of Brandon Marshall, without the borderline personality disorder. I had us taking him in the 2nd round in my mock.

by RevisIsland&Alcrotraz on Feb 3, 2012 9:07 PM EST reply actions

Thats exactly what I thought when I saw some tape on this kid. But I didn’t want to put that out there to skew opinions of him one way or another. If he can learn to play with Marshall’s tenacity, he can be the same caliber player.

BRANDON MARSHALL!?

anyone that resembles brandon marshall as a player NEEDS to be on this team!

6'4 220lbs ?

sign him up!! i think we need 4 WRs with that size…I’m not sure what round hes projected to be taken in but hes definetly got the size we should be looking for.

We are in another atmosphere. You're just in the Troposhere we in the Exospere. In other words the JETS are higher than you!

does anyone know

how many draft pick we have??

by JragonEyez on Feb 3, 2012 11:19 PM EST reply actions

yes

we have all our picks in theory, plus 2 more in the 7th and 2 more in the 6th, with one of the 6s possibly becoming a 5th. These are all comp picks from FAs.

I've disliked Divion 2 Players

(or whatever it’s called now) since we drafted Alex Van Dyke.

Although

it appears my memory is off, cause by 96 Nevada was a Div 1 school. I blame the concussions

I wrote a scouting report on him for my internship.

I don’t hate him, I don’t love him either. Poor man’s Plaxico, which isn’t what the Jets need right now.

I found ur report spot on. And every one of his attributes excite me. I don’t get how you could be luke warm about him after that assessment. A raw Plax that catches with his hands and runs precision routes is PERFECT.

by Crackback on Feb 4, 2012 12:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I just think he doesn’t fit well with Sanchez. mark was clearly not comfortable learning how to throw jump balls to a covered plax.

But if you put this guy with deep, jump ball throwers like Brees or Rivers, he can be a good player.

Mark Doesn't Have to "Learn"

how to throw jump balls. He does that naturally. He’s frequently wild high overthrowing his receivers. He’d have a hard time overthrowing Quick.

I disagree. Throwing to Plax is different than throwing to other guys. It is unnatural for him to throw to covered recievers. Quick’s biggest flaw is that he doesn’t get a lot of separation.

He threw to a covered Braylon all the time.

Idk, Braylon had some speed. He can get open.

No doubt he could blow the top off. But he used his body and bully-balled guys on the underneath stuff. Mark always threw to Bray when he was covered (NE playoffs, Miami, etc), and he trusted Bray to go get it.

by Crackback on Feb 4, 2012 1:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

That's where we fundementally disagree.

I think this is exactly the kinda guy Mark needs. He can create separation with his quickness, body guys up and box out defenders with his size, and then pluck errant throws out of the air, and run after the catch.

Mark isn’t accurate. I think he needs guys that can go get. Guys with a big catch radius and that can make a play after they get it.

Plax and Mark didn’t have a camp together, so there was a lack of chemistry there. Also Plax didn’t like going across the middle and too often trapped balls against his body to make catches. The trap catch let’s defenders that extra half-second to break it up. This kid snatches the rock with hands.

by Crackback on Feb 4, 2012 12:54 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I don’t think Quick really gets a lot of separation, but he still makes plays at the college level.

Although you do make a good point in that Quick will be more apt to go over the middle. Mark is definitely not a good sideline thrower.

how would you rate him in comparrison to jeffery's

i see a lot of similar skills with this guy and jeffery including their great attitude but i think jeffery’s got a way higher ceiling that quick . i think both guys will have good NFL careers but jeffery gets my vote because he has a greater chance to be special .

Are You Gonna Use Your 1st Rounder on Jeffrey?

I wouldn’t. I want that pass rusher.

You can get Quick or the Robinson kid in a lower round and still have an excellent prospect who isn’t that far away from Jeffrey.

i just think jeffery is too good to pass on

i would risk trading back to 20 and getting and extra 3rd to pick jeffery . my draft would then look like this
20 jeffery
2nd curry
3rd mc cellin
extra 3rd adcock or best RT
4th guy jr
we get 2 very good pass rushers a good SS an upgrade at RT and a guy who would have been a top 10 pick last year in jeffery . if we got Griffin and edwards in FA we would be looking good

he looks good but...

I would not pick him in first round. we need much more than WR. We can get someone like him in FA (Braylon, Manningham, etc.). We should hold off on WR until round 3 at earliest.
