Mock

I was sad when everyone stopped posting mock drafts because you can't predict when guys are going to be picked. While this is true, it's still fun. In history class I made a couple mocks in my textbook. Tell me what you think (Sorry, Crackback). I will be making more in my other classes and during more history classes so if you guys want I can post them then, as well.

Possibility 1:

- Trade back to picks 20-26 (Titans, Bengals, Browns, Lions, Steelers, Broncos, Texans). This whole mock draft assumes we can find a draft partner in those 7 teams. We trade our first rounder for their first and second rounder.

- Round 1: Nick Perry, OLB, USC

- Round 2: Zebrie Sanders, OT, Florida State

- Round 2: Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State OR Dwight Jones, WR, UNC, OR Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

- Round 3: Trumaine Johnson, CB/S, Montana

- Round 4: George Iloka, S, Boise State OR Winston Guy Jr, S, Kentucky

- Round 5: Adrian Hamilton, DE/OLB, Prairie View A&M OR Hebron Fangupo, DT/NT, BYU

- Round 6: Bryan Anger, P, California

- Round 7: Randy Bullock, K, Texas A&M

Possibility 2:

- Round 1: Melvin Ingrim, OLB, South Carolina

- Round 2: Bruce Irvin, OLB, WVU

- Round 3: Bobby Massie, OT, Ole Miss

- Round 4: George Iloka, S, Boise State OR Winston Guy Jr, S, Kentucky

- Round 5: Adrian Hamilton, DE/OLB, Prairie View A&M OR Hebron Fangupo, DT/NT, BYU

- Round 6: Bryan Anger, P, California

- Round 7: Randy Bullock, K, Texas A&M

What do you guys think? Which would you rather, and would you be happy with them overall?

I like both except

I feel using 2 picks in the draft for a Punter and a Kicker is a little bit of a waste. I like the punter pick but I would rather bring in someone like Mike Nugent to compete with Folk. This way we can draft a RB late. Other than that both are solid but I’d rather have draft #2

+1

I like both drafts. I don’t think melvin ingram will be there at 16 so most likely option #1 would be possible. Also we may need to get Iloka in the third because there are so few safeties in this draft and gronk can dance.

by RichTodd on Feb 22, 2012 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

Not a Waste

If you want to get a good K and P prospect these days, then you have to draft them. Mike Nugent sucks and is the past. He isn’t coming back to the Jets, nor should he. His leg is weaker than Folk’s. The Jets will have at least 3, maybe 4 compensatory picks. They can still take a RB late even with drafting a K and P.

good point

I’m not downplaying the importance of Kickers and Punters but I forgot about out compensatory picks so you’re definitely right.

Totally Onside here...

At some point you have to bite the bullet…..as I have said all along here…you want to get a punter and kicker that you’ll have for the next 10 yrs. and not have to worry about again. This example is extreme but it shows the proof is in the pudding.

Round One – 2000 Draft – Oakland Raiders select Sebastian Janikowski

12 years later that 250lb. turd is still kicking FG’s to win games from over 50 yds. away. I think in one game this year he blasted 3 kicks in from over 50 + yds. Can you just imagine where the Jets would have flown the last 12 yrs. if we had the forsite to select Janikowski? That’s a lot of wins for sure let alone the touch backs!!

I dunno. Hasn't been so great for the Raiders record.

Kickers are replaceable. They are not a position you try to solve for 10 years. In fact, only QB is that type of concern.

A few things...

Its somewhere between the the team picking 26 and 27 that the trade value is equal to their 1st and 2nd for our 16th overall.

George Iloka is being talked up as a 3rd possibly 2nd these days. And yes, I’m still interested there. I’d be looking for him or Markelle Martin with that late 2nd pick. Then perhaps revisit WR in the 3rd or 4th with Toon or Streeter.

by CervezaVerde on Feb 22, 2012 11:40 PM EST reply actions

Yes, but

a big NO to Streeter. He’s a project. Wouldn’t touch him before the 5th round.

Good Job

I LOVE the trade back and Possibility 2. In Possibility 1, I taking Perry in round one and love the rest of the draft, but taking Sanders in round 2 is awful, however. I wouldn’t take him in the 5th round. I think he’s an awful prospect. Replace him with any other prospect rated in the 2nd round and I’ll love Possibility 1 as well.

Want a job as the Jets’ GM? LOL

Why do you hate Sanders as a prospect?

What specifics about his game? and thanks for the feedback

also I would love to be the GM but I couldn’t do that to Tanny he’s one of my uncle’s best friends so I’ve met him a bunch of time and this summer at my cousin’s wedding down in Florida I intercepted a Tanny pass in beach football in the ocean

haha don't worry

I don’t have any contact with him… Joe, I’m not the guy. Write him a letter yourself if you want to

You're Welcome

With regard to Sanders, he actually stayed in his stance on one play this season and never moved. Supposedly, he fell asleep. That’s pretty bad, but not the main reason. I think he’s a major project. He needs to get stronger and develop some solid technique. Did you read any reports of the Senior Bowl? He was beaten like a drum both in practices and in the game. He really looked over matched in the game to the extent that imo he didn’t even look like he belonged on the same field with most of the other players. If I was going to take a player like that, it would be in the 5th or 6th round, and I would know that I’d probably get nothing out of him for at least a year, possibly two or more. Supposedly, he’s pretty smart and somewhat athletic, so he has some potential. Before the Sr. Bowl, I think he was seen as a 2nd round pick, but I think his value plummeted following the Senior Bowl. If not, it sure should have imo.

YES YES YES! Sanders is a big time project yet could be very good with some NFL training and coaching

he has the frame to add more bulk and arms like freakin plastiman, he just needs at the least a year in an NFL training program to gain strength, then some big time coaching. I’d agree with your ranking of 5th to a 6th

by JETSFAN IN SC on Feb 23, 2012 6:38 AM EST up reply actions

we dont need another project o-lineman

we allready have duccasse as an athletic project….. we need to draft some1 who can be used as debth if needed to step up for an injury right away

Taking a kicker in the 7th

is a great idea. I don’t trust folk, and it might be the only way to get someone of quality.

by MarcoPolo89 on Feb 23, 2012 1:49 AM EST reply actions

I like possiblity #2

So is the idea getting a wideout in the draft out the window? I know we haver other needs, but in anyway i would like to get a WR like Mcnutt who we could call our own and develop. Maybe that guy will be Riley.

At this point, there’s no way Iloka makes it to the fourth round.

by JetKing55 on Feb 23, 2012 11:59 AM EST reply actions

Not a bad idea

Though the Bengals would be out of the running they are placed behind us in the draft with their 2nd 1st round pick.

And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

I like possibility # 2. I think we should draft a RB somewhere in the middle rounds though.
Melvin Ingram will be a stud. I’m hoping he’s on the board at pick 16.

Any Film On This Guy?

This guy George Iloka shows up in every draft. I hope rex and Tanny are paying attention and draft this guy.
