Quick Poll: Your teams in other sports

I'm kind of curious after the NFL or during the NFL season who else does everyone here at GGN root for? Most people in other cities view it as Jets/Mets, Giants/Yankees with basketball and hockey being divided regionally for the most part. Of course there are some exceptions based on a number of factors; family, living history, spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, collective, etc. For me it's Mets, Jets, Knicks and Devils, in regards to the Mets, Knicks and Jets it was my father's teams but for the Devils it was my first hockey game that I attended with my father even though my father is a Rangers fan.

Only follow baseball and football...

I’m from Washington, so I was born a Mariners, Sonics, and Seahawks fan…became a Jets fan in 1986 when I was old enough to form my own opinion…

I’m still a die-hard Mariners fan, but the NBA is dead to me because Stern is a POS that let the Sonics get raped and stolen from us…

So I’m only Jets and Mariners now…usually to my dismay…

I like the Islanders, but hate hockey beyond them

I like the Yankees and the Mets about equally, Yankees a little more because they make baseball slightly less boring.

Like the Jets way more than the Giants, but I still enjoy Giants games.

I’m really not a fan of basketball at all, but I do follow the Knicks.

I'm more than anything a Jets fan, and also a pseudo-devils fan

I don’t really get many hockey games with the channels I get, and most of them are games that I don’t care about, but I do follow what goes on with the devils and root for them all the time. IDRC about basketball or baseball. I used to like baseball and I was a White Sox fan, but i’ve lost interest.

by darshv3 on Feb 22, 2012 11:29 AM EST reply actions

I'm not watching Hockey unless the rangers are in game 7 of the cup.

My yankees bring me championships but they have been losing my interest throughout the season. 162 games is alot to sit down and watch. When the jets sucked, i watched every day but i’ll watch a few here and there and come playoff time I’m in the zone. Let’s Go Knicks.

Let's Make sure we play like the f***in NEW YORK JETS
and not some f***in slapd**k team!

I don't have the attention span to watch 400 billion games

So, Jets only. I am a Rangers fan, but I never watch unless the games are important, and baseball/basketball is less fun than watching the paint on growing grass dry, so I couldn’t give less of a damn.

Be thankful u at least get to watch your baseball games. I’m a die hard Mets fan but i live in Detroit now and don’t get to watch any.

Being a Jets fan might actually kill me

by brick wall 60 on Feb 22, 2012 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

I'm strictly a Jets guy..

But I like the Yanks because I’ve been to like 10 games, I like the Islanders because I always go see their “farm team” the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and Lin has reminded me that watching the Knicks when they actually give a shit is awesome.

by JetKing55 on Feb 22, 2012 1:54 PM EST reply actions

The only quality team that I like in that list are the Yankees!

How dare you not list the Giants too! LOL. Those are the only two teams I grew up with thanks to my father. Then they move to Florida where our professional team drew the attendance of a minor league team…

There Are Other Sports?

I used to root for the Yankees, but all the strikes, Steinbrenner, and then the way Joe Torre was treated ended that. I’ve always hated the Mets, hockey and the NBA.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. what’s not to like about an inept ownership that can’t afford to get decent players for their own team?

Yankees/Devils/Nets

Yankees I inherited from being Cuban, Jets I inherited from my dad, and the other two I inherit from being from Jersey. :D

Also hockey owns >:o although you really, really lose a lot in translation just watching it on TV. Actually going to a game… so good.

by Exystence on Feb 22, 2012 5:14 PM EST via mobile reply actions

And of course I’ll still be a Nets fan when they move to Brooklyn next year.

Okay i'm stupid so I'm going to ask

What do the Yankees have in common with Cubans? I’m curious.

I'll be honest

I really have no idea tbh. In my experience though if you ask any Cuban in the tri-state area who their favorite baseball team is (and they’ll have one, we love our beisbol) at least 90% of them will say the Yankees, that number getting close to 100% the older they are. I’ve asked my dad why and he never really gave me a straight answer. I have a pretty good theory:

Cubans mostly came over to the US in the 50s and 60s, back when the Yankees were winning pretty much every World Series. A lot stayed in FL, but a lot (probably more than those that stayed in FL given how Union City at one point had the largest Cuban population on the planet per square mile) also moved to NYC and Hudson County in NJ. My dad said that they knew about the Yankees when they were in Cuba too, so they were probably like American icons back then too. So it’s likely a big combination of all those factors.

I go for.....Baseball....

I wouldn’t say on a New York website.

MARK SANCHEZ HAD BETTER STATS THAN TEBOW.

So either Sanchez is better than " second coming " or you have to admit that Tebow is no good.

I don't become interested in baseball or basketball until the playoffs

So I’m not a die hard fan of any of those teams. I do like the Yankees because I pretty much like any franchise that can beat the hell out of a Boston team.
Hockey? I can’t do it…..can’t watch hockey.

Jets, Islanders. I like the Isles because i'm from L.I. and it's the only affordable, local, professional, sport.

Baseball is an anomaly, it's boring and expensive. The Isles, I spend 20 bucks on a ticket, if I can't find them free

I usually mention the Mets, I feel they deserve to be included, even though I hate baseball.

Just because they suck, like the Islanders and Jets. It’s the tri-fuckta.
