What i would like to see this offseason (My Fist Post)

First of al Sanchez is our guy. dude has won 4 road playoff games than any other, played behind an underachieving o-line and our wr core has no chemistry and was not very good all year. Give him another year and if he shows no improvement look to find another option. also now that schotty is long long gone lets see what the Sanchize can do,

With that being said here is what i would like to see:

Players Cut or not resigned: Wanye Hunter, Plaxico Burress, Robert Turner, Jim Leonard, Rickey Sapp, Eric Smith, Matt Mulligan, Josh Baker, Greg McElroy, Mark Brunnell, Nick Folk, T.J. Conely and Calvin Pace

Players Signed and Resigned: Brodney Pool, Ladanian Tomilson, Jarrett Johnson, Piere Garcon(Our biggest move), Sione Pouha, Micheal Griffin, Donavan McNabb, Visante Schancoe, and Randy Moss. i saved Randy for last to give an explanation. He is the best deep threat, and in my opinion, the most talented Wr to ever play the game. I truly believe Rex can get the most out of Randy. He is motivated and wants to win a ring. Also i think he would, sort of, put Holmes in his place. Randy would no doubt be the number 1 guy and everybody he has played with says he is a great locker room guy. I dont believe we should throw a ton of money at him, but for an incentive based contract hell yes, its straight cash money homie.

Draft:

1st: Melvin Ingram/ Courtney Upshaw.... I prefer Ingram, but i am sure one will be gone so whichever is available.

2nd: Vinny Curry... The guy is just a montser pass rusher plain and simple.

3rd: George Iloka, S Boise State... Good safety to groom and former teamate of Kyle Wilson

4th: Josh Oglesby: Huge OT out of Wisconsin.

5th: A.J. Jenkins: physical Wr and my favorite player in this draft since im from illinois. plus i think he wold fall in the draft.

6th: Morkeith Brown: Fast Defensive End and former teamate of wilkerson possible sleeper.

7th: Shawn Powell: Strong Legged Punter out of BC. T.J. Conely just sucks

Comp picks: Im not sure what round we have them but Coby Fleener the TE out of Stanford if available would be a huge Tight End and a massive upgrade. Also Kellen Moore the Qb out of Boise State. Smart Qb to compete for the Qb spot and learn in the process.

Trades: i really think we will move Dustin Keller(Which im not a fan of). I really like Keller but he is our most valuable trade bait. also i would not be surprised if antonio Cromartie is packaged and moved. I think Kyle Wilson showed good enough improvements to start opposite of Revis.

Welcome to GGN! I’m new here myself.

Here are my thoughts about your post. First of all, I’d stay away from Moss. We don’t need to be a halfway home for players looking to make a comeback. I don’t think we have the luxury of waiting for him to come back into his own, after shaking off the rust. We need get a W as early and often as possible to build up some confidence next season.
I’m not sold on getting rid of Folk, unless we can pick up a great replacement. I’d also be hesitant to use a draft pick on a kicker, considering how desperate we are to fill some important holes in our roster.

I’m also not sure about getting rid of Keller. I think if we picked up a TE who can block and occasionally pick up a ball then we should stick with Keller. He has great chemistry with Sanchez, and we really don’t need to be dumping anyone who has a good relationship with the QB. If we do stick with him, he does need to seriously improve his blocking in the off season, as well as working on his routes. He frequently was unaware he was being thrown to or what his routes were.

I agree with most of your other assessments though! I need to check out the draft list you made. I don’t know too much about the incoming draft class.

trust me

i want to keep keller. i saw him play live in college and he is going to be a great player for a long time. i just think if we move somebody it would be him, but i doubt we will though. and ill admit im sort of a moss fan. i think with garcon, holmes, and kerley, moss would not need to be great just a big red zone target and i still think he is fast as hell. it would be fun to see if nothing else. but thank you for the comments

My Opinion.

Like every other post on offseason moves, there are moves i like and move i hate. Lets start with the one i hate, LT, its just time to move on and we don’t need T rich (for those who want us to draft him) I wish we could get rid of Pace (cap hit if we did) so lets re-structure his contract, i would add D. Brick, Sanchez, Scott, Hunter, Holmes to that list and i would trade keller for a draft pick or two. He will be a free agent next year and will command big bucks, so get something at least and don’t loose out like Cav’s and Mets did by holding on to hope, plus this guy CAN’T BLOCK. For my likes/loves, you address our key needs through FA (very smart move) great signing if we get the safety and the first two draft picks are great choices. NO Moss

Welcome

I absolutely love the first 3 picks in your draft. That would be killer. I don’t know anything about your other picks, but see no need for a DE in round 6. P Brian Anger would be better there imo. Coby Fleener would be a good pick in the middle rounds. I don’t see the point in Kellen Moore, however. The Jets already have one weak-armed QB on the roster in McElroy, and possibly one weak-brained QB in Sanchez (if he can’t learn to read Ds). ;-) I see you’re cutting McElroy in favor of McNabb. You have to be kidding. McNabb sucks, and that makes no sense. McElroy could possibly be a solid backup QB. McNabb offers nothing. He’s another Brunell.

AS much as I like your first 3 draft picks, I totally disagree with your FA moves. To begin with, there’s absolutely no way the Jets will have money to sign all those guys. No to Jarrett Johnson. He’ll be expensive and he’s on the wrong side of 30. Moss??? Please.
I like Griffin and Garcon, but they’d probably take all the Jets available money. I loved LT, but he’s done, and doubt he’d want to come back. Shiancoe isn’t bad, but there are better TEs in FA and as I said earlier, they won’t have money for him too.

Keller could be moved, but Cromartie won’t. Pace cannot be cut. To begin with, it would be a lot to expect both Ingram and Curry to be capable of starting immediately. Secondly, the Jets would take a sizable dead money cap hit if Pace were cut. Pace should stay for stability and to mentor the two rookies.

I’d like Wayne Hunter gone too, but doubt he will be, at least any time soon.

Why Baker? He can be a HB and backup FB. He can play, and could probably help the Jets more and longer than most of the FAs you want to sign.

This

Welcome to the board, but you need to dig deeper on your facts and reasoning, I also don’t like the idea of cutting Sapp they kept on board all year for something, I’m thinking they might see a little something in him hopefully.

Hello, welcome

Nice first post, but i disagree with some things. Wayne Hunter is apparently gonna be back, We can’t really cut calvin pace because of cap reasons, and call me crazy, but we should keep Eric smith as a sub-package player and special teams player, because we have no safety depth as it is. Also I don’t really agree with any of your FA signings aside from Pouha, and I don’t think we’ll be able to land Garcon. And I think it’s worth bringing back Leonhard on a vet’s minimum contract. As for the draft, I really like it, but I think we should grab a receiver in the 2nd instead of another OLB. As much of a need as OLB is, Upshaw/Ingram will make a good starter opposite pace, and we have Mayhem as our situational pass rusher, so I don’t think we need to double dip.

my reasoning

first sorry for not going into great depth on my reasoning. i was between class and work so i only had about an hour. i actually had meant to cross off jarret johnson. i would like to see our LB depth chart like this…. OLB- Ingram/Upshaw and maybin on the other side with Curry playing about 35- 40% of the snaps. i like bryan thomas over Pace, but i understand the cap reasoning. LT should be back because he is a good solid veteran and a great locker room presence. Randy Moss will be comeback player of the year whether he is with us or not, a motivated Randy Moss is the best Wr in the game. As for Garcon i think he should be one of our top priorities. As far as keeping Eric Smith i have constant flashback of him getting burned by running backs, tight ends, and Wrs. we have kyle wilson and a rookie for special teams and nickel backs. Baker should be gone because we dont need a backup fullback. not many teams do ahve a backup fullback. as far as Cromartie goes, i just am not a huge fan of him. he gets burnt way to easy by the 2nd or 3rd Wr.
It would be impossible to hit on all these, but it is just what i would like to see done. its not like we have huge glaring holes on both sides. We are not a horrible, or even a bad team, we just need minor improvements and depth. I believe Rex can get the most out of Randy Moss, and we can really start building for next year and years to come with a good offseason, Also i’m not sure what our cap space is. I have heard anywhere from 5- 30 million dollars. So it was a little hard to determine exactly what we have to work with. i really do appreciate the positive and negative feedback though.

also

With the great potential Jets articles and the scouting of the upcoming draft articles there are on here i really did not see the point it putting the same old stuff, as far as stats and measurables on here, when i had only a limited time.

Like the ideas a lot!

I just don’t think Jenkins will fall that far, but O agree with almost everything else.

by JetKing55 on Feb 18, 2012 12:34 PM EST reply actions

im just not a huge fan of jim

personally i think he is a little to slow for what we need. now if he comes back for a small contract then hell yes. but with two leg injuries in two years i think we could get more athletic back their. honestly with as much as cromartie gets beat im surprised we dont try to move him back their. i know he is tall enough

just 2 things

no moss, and I see no reason to draft Moore. isn’t he a smart, weak qb, just like Mcelroy? othere than that a great post

thanks

The only reason i like moore is because i dont see mcelroy on the team next year. With all that stuff he said I cant see it happening. Moore is a guy that could be a kellen Clemens type… a good back up for ten years. Also the dude knows how to win football games. i just think he would be a good locker room guy with the potential to groom. plus it would be a late round pic 6th or 7th round.

There's Nothing Wrong With What McElroy Said

He didn’t say anything worthy of getting cut.

I have nothing against Moore per se (except his lack of arm strength), but won’t get upset if he’s drafted, as long as they still draft a P.

Good first post

I like other players in the draft, but any one of the players you mentioned would be good additions to this team. I like Dustin Keller, especially coming off a team leading year in catches and yards. If they did trade him, I think Jeff Cumberland and Josh Baker could do a pretty good job filling in as well as the vets about to get cut like Mercedes Lewis and Chris Cooley.

by manuvsteal on Feb 19, 2012 1:31 AM EST reply actions

I like most of it

i like your draft although not sure if that OT is good enough to start over hunter or not. I like some of the FAs, i like griffin, garcon and pouha but am just not sure we have the money. I definitely do not want Moss or Mcnabb. no thanks to those guys.

by RichTodd on Feb 20, 2012 1:31 PM EST reply actions

on mcelroy

Maybe what he said should have been said, maybe it was all true, but it comes down to knowing your role, a rookie 3rd string qb has no business coming in and saying anything. if he wants to say something, come into training camp, beat out sanchez, and then as a starting qb you can say something. if it would have came from revis, harris, brick, holmes or even LT or Greene fine…. but in the famous words of the Rock "Know your role and shut your mouth. i would also like to add good luck for him to come back into that locker room welcomed.

by ganggreen24 on Feb 21, 2012 2:55 PM EST reply actions

and thanks

i actually had not idea mercedes lewis was a free agent. i must have overlooked him, but he would be an awesome addition to our team. he is big, somewhat fast, and great hands. also they Jacksonville has a great run game so he has to be able to block pretty well. even if we keep keller he would be a great bargain pick up
