Cavanagh is back
The Jets have announced that Matt Cavanagh is being retained as the QB coach. This move is completely indefensible. When guys like Steve Young, Trent Dilfer and Rich Gannon all point out that Mark Sanchez was poorly coached and you keep Cavanagh on who is completely worthless it shows that Ryan is once again clueless in regards to offense and stubborn beyond belief. Cavanagh has done a terrible job wherever he has been and Ryan is overlooking that because he likes the guy.
As far as I am concerned this move will be what ends Ryan's time as the Jets head coach. Sanchez will not improve being coached by Sparano who is an oline coach and Cavanagh who is pure trash. You guys can all rip me apart as being negative but there is just no justification for keeping this incompetent on the staff. This move proves that Rex will just never get it in regards to offense and I am now convinced we will never win the Super Bowl with him as head coach. I hope we just release Sanchez so he can go play for real offensive coaches and not continue to be wasted here.

how much of this is Rex's decision?
i agree it’s a stupid idea, but is it Rex’s stupid idea? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn Mike T. or Woody is behind it, at least in part.

This team just does not get it
Another year with this bum. What do they see in him?

its gotta be Rex' idea
didnt Cavanaugh work in Baltimore with Rex? just ridiculous, we couldve signed Hue Jackson and demped Cav but that wouldve made too much sense

My Hope
1.Tom Moore becomes a more active consultant
2. I wouldn’t mind Pennington starting his coaching career , IMO Sparano would be supportive.
3. Get a backup that can compete for a job
You have 14 million invested in Sanchez for 2012, don’t you everything you can to make the successful
I don't think so as to (1).
Tom Moore was asked point blank by a Jets beat reporter if he was coming back. He said no one at the Jets camp reached out to him, and that he didn’t think so, so that seems pretty unlikely.
Typical for This Joke of a FO
How the heck can anyone defend Tanny??? This is totally unprofessional and just plain stupid. Even if you don’t want him back, you at least show him the respect and courtesy of thanking him for his time, efforts and contributions and wishing him well in the future. To just not contact or communicate at all is awful.
Treating coaches like this is gonna hurt the Jets and Rex. Those dumbasses better get their acts together in a hurry or in a few years, they won’t be able to hire a coach to come here.

I guess the idea is some form of continuity for Sanchez
Probably should have thought about that before they essentially completely turned over his WR corps. This is not the spot that needed continuity.

Its asinine and Sanchez and the Jets will suffer because of it. Rex’s loyalty is gonna wind up being his undoing.

Eh
oh well, I honestly don’t know how much this is gonna mean in the grand scheme of things.
Definitely Mind Boggling and Frustrating
The rumor earlier was that Rex wanted to keep Cavanaugh and Sparano wanted the guy the Texans wound up signing as their QB Coach. If this is on Rex, then he deserves a big hit, and it is totally stupid. Not only is it stupid because Cavanaugh is bad, but he shouldn’t go against whomever his new OC wanted.
Tanny is supposedly the one who forced Schotty on Rex and insisted on keeping him, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Tanny wasn’t connected and at least partly to blame for this.
It’s this kind of crap that makes me want to say to hell with this team. 48 freaking years of this nonsense. One GM after another and one HC after another are too damned arrogant to look at the past and learn from it. They all think their different and better and can reinvent the wheel.
Eff it and eff them. If Sanchez struggles again this year and/or the offense flounders under Sparano, I hope that both Tanny and Rex are fired.

No matter who it is on Rex will take the hit first.
Only they know if it is deserved or not. In any case, this means the coming season is a write off. The cap situation plus the coaching mess we now see developing points toward Sanchez not even having an opportunity to improve. Even though I think he has already shown us his ceiling, I would have been liked to have been proved wrong. This is worse than a dry blow job, and it probably means we are going to be going through more organizational changes after the 2012 season.
A Dry Blow Job?
LOL!!! What pray tell, is that?
Actually, I don’t think Sanchez has reached his ceiling. The kid has shown flashes. It Sparano has any brains at all, he will tailor his system or create a new system that is geared to the things that Mark does well (play action, long passes, rolling out, etc.), will give him simpler plays early in games to get him in a rhythm and build confidence, won’t switch to the wildcat just when Mark starts to get hot, and will design game plans and reads that are easier for him, so he can just play and let his talent take over, and not have to think so much and doubt himself. They also need to stop putting so much pressure on him. If they’ve been telling him “not to screw up” or “play not to lose” then they need to stop that crap, let him throw the ball and be more relaxed and at ease. If he can’t start playing more consistently and well then, then they’ll know that he’s not the QB of the future.
If they aren’t very smart with how they use and handle him, they’re gonna find themselves starting all over again next year with a new QB, or find themselves out of jobs.

Man…..speaking on behalf of GGN….we have all suffered some serious low downs from Jets mis-adventures and terrible losses but I don’t think one of them stands up to your comparable. Wow!! That must have been a horrific incident. Hope it wasn’t a long drawn out event……..lol

As far as I can remember i was stoned at the time.
But the aftermath was painfully memorable. ;)

Cimini
was speculating that we didnt want to pay the last year of Cavanagh’s contract. I have been reading way too many things about Woody not wanting to fire a guy because he is owed money. This is why we didnt fire Schotty immediately and at least part of the reason why Cavanagh is still around.
Hue jackson should have been hired as our QB coach and its incredible that Cavanagh still has a job. I cant see how Sanchez is going to improve under an OC who is an oline coach and Cavanagh who is a complete moron.
This organization is just not run well at all. Woody is cheap and Tanny is nothing more than a numbers cruncher who cant evaluate talent at all. Rex is also looking more and more like his father everyday; a great defensive coordinator who is not a great head coach.
Gone
I wanted Cav gone too but I guess as the FO can’t evaluate talent they can’t evaluate coaching too. Some of us feel that we need better scouting/evaluation of talent. But it seems they try to take the easy way out with quick fixes with old players instead of getting young talent with heart but not very well known for the higher rounds and the undrafted. But we would also need good coaching for that to bring out the talents in them. lol
At least I now know for sure that Rex and Tanny are fans of GGN
Keeping Cavanaugh around will give the Sanchez apologists an excuse for next year. Well done Rex!!

OR
Or the Sanchez haters and fair weather fans have more excuses to say I told you so. Yea not a 1 on 1 game a team game. So let’s build a good team and not rely on one old QB to be our saviour. We have holes to fill to be a stronger TEAM.
Sanchez took our TEAM to 2 AFCC and our defense broke down in 09 the 2nd half and in 10 the first half, Sanchez played well in both. In 2011 the team broke down on offense and defense. I was one of Sanchez critics for his play last year but the whole team broke down.
Yea total defense we look better on paper than the Giants and Pats but they both had more sacks and ints than we did. The Pats also allowed less total points and they both kicked our ass. Both their defenses played well toward the end of the season and in the playoffs.
Sanchez and Woody supposedly went out to dinner and maybe Mark stood up for Cavanaugh?
I can’t figure why he stayed while basically the whole offensive coaching staff was flushed.
Conundrum ?
Its amazing…….they were ready to spend the house on a CB from Oakland last summer…and now we’re quibblin over should we bring back a consultant who made our Offence so effective down in the Red Zone last year, guess we better not we pay-out an ineffective QB coach and bring in a highly respected innovator to work with the team’s highest paid player-the most important position on offense-the position that can determine the outcome of the game with one play or leave things the way they are – let the player plateau, see the team continue on the same course it has for the last 40 yrs., refuse to think outside the box…especially when we’re the host’s of the SB…no added pressure here folks!

Am I the only one who likes Cavanaugh being back ? He has a lot of experience in the system we’re going to run under Sparano.
