We can now draft at least one superstar free agent.
I would like the Jets to go after Mario Williams, and double dipping pass rushers in the draft. Or Vincent Jackson but still Double Dip on pass rushers.
That's really good to know
I don’t think we should go for any superstar FAs, but definitely get some mid-tier guys to help balance out the roster.
I don't think you read the article close enough.
The Jets are committed to $128 million already. I don’t know if that includes the players whose contracts expire or not. But, if the cap is $120, as Clayton suggests, then the $8.3 million gets us to break even. So we have no room. If the cap is $128 million, as some others have projected, then we have some wiggle room, but not much. Anything in between is obviously worse.
For the renegotiation fans, 10 players account for $90 million of salary cap in 2012. So, to look at it another way, that leaves us 30 million for 43 players + practice squad players, many of whom are already on the roster. And all that money is already committed to 2012, except in the case of a renegotiation, which brings us back to Sanchez and Keller as – realistically, not from some Fantasy Island delirium – the only sources of cap relief for this coming year.
Obviously, Tanny knew what he was facing in 2012 based on the contracts given out the previous 2 years. Now we see why they didn’t spend the money this past season. They knew they could be over the cap, so this was the insurance policy.
