Sanchez + Keller = Trade
This is a comment I posted on the "Should Dustin Keller Stay or Go?" Would love to know what you guys think.
…I first heard about the Keller trade rumors it got me to thinking. First off let me state that I am a big fan of not only Keller but Sanchez too. That being said, I believe we should trade them.
When it was first reported here on GGN that Keller might possibly be traded I commented on that post and said if Keller goes, Sanchez won’t be our QB. I think I was right. They’re best friends, there isn’t a chance in hell that if we traded away Keller, Sanchez wouldn’t be upset. So why not a package deal?
Let’s not forget, Keller is in his final year of his contract with the Jets and Sanchez, who some believe is one of the most overpayed players in this league has only two more years left.
With Sanchez and Keller you get two players that have chemistry with each other. That something that is very important when it comes to winning games. To already have at least one established connection would make a team with a new QB pretty happy.
If you’re wondering what team would take this trade? I think it’s pretty obvious, the Washington Redskins. After another abysmal year in Washington, especially at the QB position they are going to be looking for yet another new QB. The Redskins are a team known to utilize the catching tight end in Fred Davis. With Davis’ contract up, and coming off of a 4 game suspension reasons to drop Davis and pick up Keller seem to be at a high.
What I think we get in return, in addition to our first round pick is their first rd pick which we will use some how to trade with the Bucs and pick up Trent Richardson. How we do this…well I haven’t gotten that far yet, but these are just thoughts and what I want to see happen. I’m excited to see this all play out.

You know
Trent Richardson is awesome. But why don’t we pick up Doug Martin from BSU in the second round? He is built and runs just like MJD or Ray Rice. He is three down back. Can run, block and catch.
I dont think he will
He was beast during the Senior Bowl practice, though they didn’t do much with him during the game. There has been talk of him being the second RB taken and if he has a good combine then that’s a possibility

So essentailly the proposal is Sanchex, Keller and our 16th pick, for Trent Richardson?
No, thanks. McElroy tossing to Cumberland and handing off to Richardson does not improve this team.
You almost had me there, but you lost me, when all of that was to trade up for Trent Richardson.
I personally don’t want Richardson, but if he fell to us and we took him BPA I guess I wouldn’t be that upset. I definitly would not want to see them trade up for him, we’re not that desperate at running back.

I wouldn't mind seeing Keller get shipped.
He doesn’t seem like a true tight end, he seems more like a lumbering wide receiver. I want someone BIG at TE ala, Gronk, Shockey, Gonzalez, even Ballard.

And with our shit QB they won’t be used correctly anyway.
I liked Dustin Hellen Keller. Dustin on good days, Hellen others….get it? ok corny I know… Anyway, I don’t think we use him right at all. He should be creating so many mismatches, but he just doesn’t get open or we don’t get him the ball.
And when he does catch it, there are times he just goes right down….he kinda plays like a girl at times. MAN UP dustin, crack some people. you have the size

I'm in agreement in principal.
I think we could get something for Keller. I’m not sure what you would get for Sanchez with his current contract, and a package deal isn’t going to change that. If teams hear that you are willing to trade him they may suspect you want to free up cap space and just wait to see if he is cut.
As for trading them to Washington, you are making the assumption that the Shanahans’ think Sanchez has the potential to be better than what they have. He didn’t exactly blow the doors off the place when we played the Redskins this year. Plus, they have Cooley and Davis (if he re-signs), both of whom are more complete tight ends than Keller.
Who doesnt Shanahan think is good?
He’s had McNabb’s corps, Rex Grossman, and some other dope that couldnt get into the building cause they didnt know who he was…even Kellen Clemens was there for a minute…they’d take Sanchez and the sign him to a 6yr 92mil contract
If you looked at Sanchez's body of work the last 3 years...
…would you still make the trade to get him at #5? So why would Shanahan give up a lot now? Or does he even still feel the same about him as he did on draft day?

washington was the team that wanted sanchez when he came out
i would like this if we were getting manning and davis as replacements . but i wouldn’t like the idea of trading up for richardson

+1 and.....
I didn’t like the idea of us giving up our #1 in the deal. If we retained that and had the 2 first rounders then I’d be pretty comfortable about it. Of course this means we would have signed in FA a “quality” back-up for Sanchez.
"It's only through change we learn to grow".
Just want to state...
…I’m not for or against trading up for Trent Richardson, just thoughts on why or how this trade could play out.
we are not trading Sanchez.
Sanchez is our guy! The team is going to stick by him. He deserves one more shot. DK i hope we don’t trade away, but is we do i hope it’s for a 3rd pick or lower. Nothing higher than a third.

sanchez does deserve another shot
but don’t confuse what a player deserves and with the team sticking by him . see edwards , ellis and jones as examples .

You really think you can get the #6 overall pick for Sanchez and Keller?
Why would the Redskins pay a first round pick for an expensive QB that has underperformed and a TE who has a single season left on his contract? Chances are they can get Fred Davis back pretty cheaply because of his drug suspension and even without him, they still have Chris Cooley.
Based on production, Sanchez isn’t that much higher of an upgrade than Grossman and they’re certainly not going to pass on the chance for Robert Griffin III for Sanchez. Then Dustin Keller may not even be the starting TE for them, but even if he was, he could end up being a one year rental. The Redskins would never make that trade. They’d be absolutely foolish to even consider it.

Dumb Belief which was NOT AT ALL thought out
1. Neither of these players are going anywhere
2. NO TEAM in the NFL would take over Sanchez’s contract
3. Trent Richardson cannot block for himself and is similar to Shonn Greene
4. Backup tight end = non-existent
5. You’re not very bright
6. You probably live in the south
5. You’re not very bright6. You probably live in the south

Never said I thought it out...
…more just typed my thoughts up and asked what you think about it.
1. Maybe. Never ruled out that option.
2. I believe there has to be one team that would.
3. If that is their only similarity, give me Trent Richardson. Greene’s college highlights don’t compare but that is college so things could turn out differently.
4. We can sign/draft more than 1 TE.
5. I never claimed to be bright.
6. I live in Connecticut.
Would a team maybe take Sanchez's contract?
Maybe, but not for a first round pick. Certainly if that pick is #6 overall.

I'm not saying he is.
I’m saying we could trade Sanchez, Keller, and our first round pick for theirs, being that our goal is to pick up Trent Richardson (not saying it is). At least that’s what I meant to say.
I just don't think that is enough.
For the Jets to move up to #6, they would need to surrender their 2013 first round pick and likely a few other picks. Sanchez and Keller is not enough to make up for that. Essentially, that is saying Sanchez and Keller would be worth at least a 2013 first round pick.

Something I was thinking about and telling my friends in school today.
Mark Sanchez has played for 3 years… Has had 3 different WRs, 3 different o-lines, a lockout shortened training camp in a crucial year for him… And has improved his statistics in each year. Including the lockout shortened one where he had to gain chemistry with plaxico and mason, and deal with an inconsistent 0-line.
Let's Make sure we play like the f***in NEW YORK JETS
and not some f***in slapd**k team!
by jets4life24 on Feb 1, 2012 6:07 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Yet...
Cam Newton and Andy Dalton are both rookies in a lockout shortened season and for Dalton, had a rookie WR as well. Dan Orlovsky entered his 3rd year and was with a new team in a lockout shortened offseason and actually played relatively okay for the Colts. Matt Moore entered his 4th season with a new team in a lockout shortened offseason, started as a backup, and came in mid-season to play pretty well. Tarvaris Jackson, while not new to the NFL, entered his first year with a new team in a lockout shortened offseason and played relatively well.
What does that mean? Every player dealt with a shortened offseason and they all deal with turnover at support positions. At some point you just need to stop making excuses for the kid and either say “Improve or else.” It took Miami a few years to do it with Henne. NYJ is starting to get to that point with Sanchez. You can’t go ahead and make excuses for him the entire time though. We were all too familiar with that at the Phinsider with people trying to make excuses for Henning. What were they? Poor OC (gone), poor RB play (gone), poor OL with turnover (some gone), lack of a #2 WR. Whatever the excuses… players and coaches changed and Henne didn’t. Now he’ll be gone. You got what you were hoping for with Sanchez with a new OC, but how much longer can you continue to pin blame somewhere else? I’m not trying to hate on the Jets, but I share because Miami went through the exact same situation. It’s time for Sanchez to step up or move on, but you can’t make an excuse in January of 2013 that Sanchez failed to regress because he had to move on from Plax and was unfamiliar with the new OC.

Blah! I meant make excuses for Henne, not Henning. Also meant to make excuses for Sanchez for failing to progress and not regress.
Sometimes my mind and mouth/fingers aren’t on the same page…

We are definitely on the same page
I am so sick of the excuses, Jets fans look pathetic for continuing to blame everybody but the turnover machine.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
So changing a YOUNG QB's o-line and WR every year will help?
Don’t get me wrong, sanchez deserves blame but if you say he sucks look at what he’s had to deal with. All those changing parts and he still put up career highs. We all expect young QBs to burst on to the scene immediately like big ben, when not all are the same. Patience

I dont expect Sanchez to burst on to the scene
I just want to see improvement and I dont mean better stats. I want to see him read coverages better, make better throws. I want better accuracy and I want him to protect the ball better. Sadly, Im yet to see any of this. I hope the new OC helps him but I am not optimistic.

that trunover machine also was third in the AFC with passing TDs and second in the AFC with 32 total Tds. so he can put up points.
by np3 on Feb 2, 2012 7:11 PM EST up reply actions
That's wonderful but those stats are meaningless if you are continually playing from behind
Our defense was gassed due to the countless 3 and outs and fumbles and INTs. The game planning was awful but Sanchez showed zero growth. He looked the same in year #3 as he did in year #1. Im not saying to give up on the kid but I would temper the expectations a bit.
By the way he might’ve been third in passing TDs, and second in total TDs, but he led the entire NFL in Fumbles, and was 5th in INTS and he also had the 7th worst completion %. Dont worry, he finished ahead of Tebow, Gabbert, Bradford, Ponder, Painter and Skelton. That would mean that elite QBs like McCoy, Tavaris Jackson, Kolb, Cassel, Dalton, Orton, and Grossman all finished ahead of the great Sanchez.

I like it but
I like the concept but I don’t think it would work. They get Mark Dustin and our first round pick #16 and we get the #6 pick. Well if we could then take that and give it to the Rams along with our 2nd rounder we could get RG3 now that I can probably live with. However I don’t think Wash would do the first part much less the Rams the second
So let's get rid of the only person who can catch on the team, who isn't a rookie or a clubhouse cancer,
And get rid of him. Great idea.

lets actually try to have the same recievers as last season.
keller can catch, run, and hes been a jet for a while. ill admit, he does need to work on his blocking. we arent going to get a 1st round or second round pick for him, at most a 3rd.
