Jets Need Youth at Nose Guard

One thing I have noticed while watching the Jets is the struggles of Sione Pouha he is consistently getting dominated at the point of attack. If the Jets get back to having dominate outside linebackers and nose guards they will free up Mo Wilkerson and young Quinton Coples. Lets's look at some options for 2013

JOHN JENKINS NOSE GUARD GEORGIA 6'3 360

Pros

  1. Can penetrate/good pass rusher/can press pocket
  2. Good 3-4 nose tackle size
  3. Good get off
  4. good lateral movement
  5. overall power is good
Cons
  • At 351 staying in shape may be an issue
  • Lacks counter moves, more violent hands
  • Pads tend to slightly rise after contact, legs stop as well
  • Struggles staying stout at the point of attack
  • Needs to work on disengaging blocks, consistent hand placement, firing off hands
  • Would like to see more of an initial punch
  • Has to fight reach blocks
  • Needs to work on keeping shoulders square down the line
  • Doesn’t show ability to split double teams
With all that said the Jets may be interested in this big fella come April
